Hi to all my friends here on ATS. I appreciate all of you, and have had a really wonderful year learning that it really is possible to have enriching relationships online.

I have gained so much this year. I've also had some unforgettable experiences, and spent lots of cherished time with friends and family.

However, overall, 2017 was pretty freaking stressful. I wrote a poem about it, lol, and thought I'd share it here.

Ode To 2017

It was a year of loved ones’ cancer, fear.
Now past the scare, the surface scars have healed;
The pain of inner scars are not so clear--
When facing death down something has to yield.

And YET, so much to praise, enjoy, and love
Along with heavy lessons learned, but well.
I’ll take the pain and thank the gains thereof
Some lessons carved; the cost is hard to tell.

We’ve atomized and polarized our peers--
This program brought by Murdoch/Turner two.
Designed to grab you by your hopes and fears,
The lies are bought by us and sold to you.

Of worries nuclear and paranoid
(Though sold by aforementioned greedy ghouls)
The crater left could leave a ravaged void
That brings us back to rudimentary tools.

I can’t express relief enough to bid
Good bye to this intense and bitter year.
Reflection brings to light the hope that hid
Amidst the cloak of darkness, semi-sheer.

And finding ground to root itself down deep,
It burrows down and settles in my heart.
The hope that lessons learned though steep
Allows us all to gain, and then…. restart.

So that was cathartic! How does your year look in reflection?

Thanks for taking the time to read and I hope you are having a great day, all!

Nice ryme, to a hip hop beat...

17 was good for me economically, spiritually not so much.

Amidst the cloak of darkness, semi-sheer.

That was very good, zos...
You have a great talent there.

There were only two significant changes to my life so far in 2017...

One I’m not quite confident enough to discuss just yet...
& the second was giving up my anti-psychotic medication, about 2 months ago.

Have a great day yourself!

Ha ha, you know it! Still my favorite genre, I think

Tough year for spiritual growth (though I think it's there, after the smoke clears). But I am very glad to hear at least something went well for you this year!

All the best olaru! Thanks for reading!

Thank you so much Haz, I am super shy when it comes to writing.. so both yours and olaru's responses are so encouraging.

Also both changes you mentioned sound exciting. Lots of new beginnings. Good luck with everything, sounds great!

Hi my friend, great poem. You are a very talented writer, and probably deserve this "writer" title more than I do (psst, you should give the next contest a go).

2017 for me, has been quite the journey, both good and bad, but immensely profound in so many different ways (ATS has actually been a big part of it).. and my journey is only beginning

Hope you're having a great weekend!!

Hi Hunter!

Thank you for reading, and your reply put a huge smile on my face. (You for sure deserve the honor of that title.)

I love how you described the last year as a journey, just beginning. Great to hear, my friend, safe travels!!!

Thank you, sincerely, for the kind wishes. Wishing the same to you and yours!

I'm sorry to hear about your grandmother; that's really tough (I miss mine too). Glad you have your family around for the Christmas though, enjoy your time with them.

Cheers to a great new career!

Ha ha, too late to edit, I realized I left out two syllables in the last refrain. So here's a "final draft" (Iambic pentameter-- makes for sorta stilted lines but that's how Odes are made I guess!
)
