The Great Red Spot Descends Deep Into Jupiter

DECEMBER 13, 2017
Trilobites
By KENNETH CHANG
NEW ORLEANS — Jupiter's Great Red Spot is not just a skin-deep beauty mark.

Instead, the iconic storm descends at least 200 miles beneath the clouds and possibly much deeper.

That is one of the latest findings of NASA’s Juno spacecraft, which passed directly over the storm in July.

The Juno scientists presented their latest findings this week at a meeting of the American Geophysical Union in New Orleans.

Before Juno, astronomers could only observe the swirling of the cloud tops in the Great Red Spot, which is 10,000 miles wide — large enough to swallow Earth. Last year, scientists using an infrared telescope in Hawaii reported that the atmosphere 350 to 600 miles above the spot was exceptionally hot, averaging 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit.

But no one knew what was happening below the clouds. Scientists wondered whether the storm was shallow and confined to that slice of the atmosphere or if it descended hundreds or thousands of miles into the planet.

An instrument on Juno measures microwave emissions, which pass through the clouds into space. Warmer regions generate more microwaves, and the region below the Great Red Spot was warmer, even 200 miles down, the deepest that the microwave instrument could peer. The deep heat likely explains the source of the energy driving the storm.

What could be the source of the heat?

a reply to: Ophiuchus 13 Well that is clear.....Russians. Back to the topic and what I am about to say is just a theory. What if the 'core' has only one vent. Now what if that vent is located right under the storm. Hot and cold air mix together and maybe that is the only spot that happens at. Which may explain that storm. Just a thought

That storm (aka Red Spot) has been stationary in the same position for as long as man has known about it. It's "rooted" to something.

Maybe scientists are wrong, and jupiter has a solid surface. A surface that features a YUGE volcano. That might explain why the Red Spot never moves.

Is it possible to temporarily turn S.O.H.O or S.D.O it's direction and look with the various lenses at JUPITER & the Great Red Spot?

Vent, something rooted and intense gravity and high pressure are logical theories.
I will add natural wormhole or some floating object(s) caught in the planets pull.
Would make for a good Astral travel & Rv experiment if safe...

That is not correct. It moves. You can get the position for example from this site: JUPOS - Database for Object Positions on Jupiter.
In fact, the Great Red Spot stays in the same band to the north/south bordered by two high-pressure areas, but does wander around to the (edit)east (not west), if I read this diagram correctly. The graph below shows the drift of the Great Red Spot in recent time.

WOW...what I was taught in school was 100% bunk! I guess we can discard the theory that the Red Spot is connected to some surface eruption.

What could be the source of the heat?

Entangled Climate Collapse
Global Warming Alarmists have triggered a quantum decoherence in the matrices vectors causing the wave function to collapse by passive aggressively observing the phenomenon...

Speculation that this gas giant could ignite has me thinking maybe we have evidence of some kind of flame off of the gases.

Excellent observation!

And it brings to light that perhaps quantum entanglement from other places are affecting Earth...

Sure, some of the specific data is informative, but who thought that the red spot was merely floating around in the upper atmosphere of the planet and not connected to something down below?

Maybe you should ask Al Gore, pretty sure he has got some connections over there.

This is untrue. The spot is nearly stationary in a north south direction but drifts east and west continuously.

A) Tornadic cyclone bringing up heat from Jupiters interior. IOW, a gas giant's version of a Volcano.

B) A moonetesimal in formation. A baby moon being formed, heated by the friction of all the bombarding particulates in the Jovian cloud tops. Growing ever larger, rising ever higher to eventually become another moon birthed by its Jovian Overlord.

Remember where you heard it first. Dibs on the term, moonetesimal.
