Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory Youtube channel has recently added 60+ declassified nuclear test films.
"The U.S. conducted 210 atmospheric nuclear tests between 1945 and 1962, with multiple cameras capturing each event at around 2,400 frames per second. These are the declassified films of tests conducted by Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory."

The first video in the series explains what they are doing, and the process involved.

Thanks for posting.

I don't know why I like watching these but I do. I have also found myself on google earth looking at the test sites where they blew some of these bad boys off. There is always something to look at in the desert.

Somewhere there is a plugin for Google Earth, which matches each crater and far more, with the name of the test, date, yield.

For me, they are like real-world 3D reaction-diffusion simulations combined with fluid-dynamics. There's a beautiful flow and growth to these shapes and the resulting turbulence. Used to play with RD systems about a decade ago when GPU's first came out. It was so cool to see how each simulation run would always be different just by tweaking parameters a little.

You see two craters up close when tour take the NTS tour. SEDAN is the big one. You can also see Gate 700 from that location. Be sure to annoy the guide by asking where does that gate go.
