Visiting Europe is like time traveling into the future, and then visiting 3rd world countries reminds you more of places inside the USA. It's pretty depressing.

Then again, liberals and immigrants living in "coastal elite" cities in blue states are doing the most international traveling to understand and see this first hand.

If the Hunger Games were real, Alabama would be the poorest district and send someone like Roy Moore for tribute.

I wonder ... if cutting taxes and following the GOP-Republican-conservative model works so well, why are there zero Fortune 500 companies flocking to Alabama, Mississippi and Kansas? Zero taxes and regulation should equal infinite economic growth, right? Isn't that conservative logic?

I hope Alabaman's enjoy their hookworm infestations, it's been known to cause mental slowness and lethargy.

EDIT: OK, maybe ONE Fortune 500 business is HQ in Alabama, Region's Bank.

I am curious where?

Cause the Europe I have looked at every day for the last 3 years had every problem America has, people working 2 jobs or absurdly long hours to stay afloat.

I see racial problems, rising nationalism and an economy that is not quite as strong as people like to say it is, but I have for the most part avoided the big cities cause I prefer to see the real countries I am visiting.

Well gee I can't wait till
They get to the poorest state of the union and find it mostly white and disabled folk where the majority of workers are government and their paychecks covered by a minority of senior citizens and private sector. Oh yah Margot Kidder. also lives here. Socialism does not work no matter the glorious platitudes of those who espouse higher taxes

The UN said poverty. The trump cult should get a dictionary and look up the meaning. Sick and hungry people don’t have resources. If they were animals, they would be dead by now. Yes, I know that is the preferred answer for certain Americans.
No that is the mantra of one Thomas Malthus and his relative Darwin.

That was when we lived in forests and hunter gatherers. Everyone was trying to fill the hunger and survive. Poverty is the result of civilizations. We should try to find solutions. That’s human.

Democrats had a super-majority in congress the last two years of the Bush administration. There is not one piece of legislation they wanted that they could not have passed. There is not one piece of legislation that passed that could not have been blocked had they wanted to. The democrats had veto proof power - AND DID NOTHING.

Oh yeah, believe me, Bush would have vetoed anything they put forward, and you know it.

Ummm....thats what a super majority is - its enough votes to overturn a veto = veto proof power.

Lieberman and the senator from Arkansas, the two scum bags who stopped the public option in 2010, and other blue dog democrats would have voted with Bush

You don’t know much about politics, my friend

There is a very clear, obvious, and verifiable reason for the poverty situation in this country. Lyndon Johnson declared war, WAR, on poor people. That was NOT a euphemism, or a clever pun, it was a very specific legal term that is ONLY USED when one declares war. Poor people are enemy combatants and have been for decades. If you are not sure, look at how they are treated. The rich get access to "rights" afforded in the Constitution but the poor, well not so much.

It is in black and white, the US has only two DECLARED wars in 60 years. The war on poor people and the war on drugs, and if you put the two together you see what is going on. Drugs=enemy combatant. If you steal 1 million dollars from a bank you get a trial with bail, if you have a joint, you go to jail and loose all of your belongings, just like an enemy combatant during war as to the victor go the spoils of war. If you are poor you are screwed. Legal terms matter, words matter, I Declare War On Poverty, is not a cute way of showing commitment, it is a declaration that has meaning in the UN and by the way, all over the world. The US is a war with all poor people all over the world...

I know a hell of a lot more than you do. And either way, its still blue who failed to solve the problem when they had the chance. Super-majority is super-majority. Period. Fist you didnt know what a super majority was, now you claim you know how people would have voted. I would think something like that would be based on the legislation in question. Since the democrats really didn't put any forward it makes me wonder why you think you know what the vote would have been. Or is this just more liberal lies... I vote the latter.

People will do that, but most people don't want to starve or be out on the streets.

You underestimate the number of people who are poverty stricken because they simply have no economic prospects. Think about it - the rural south's been destroyed since the Civil War, because they tore down the slave plantations but, of course, no one ever tried to help them build any new industry. They've left them to rot in poverty because they don't care, and the liberal elites in the cities think of them as backwards hicks and don't want to help them, because they see the blacks as more deserving. This is why I hate identity politics.

These people need help. Education, relocation, development projects, something to help them earn some money.
