Iran says it will not give up its construction of a heavy water nuclear reactor. European offers for assisstance with a light water reactor are
welcomed, however Iran says that they have come far in their heavy water reactor and will not abandon it. The concern over the heavy water reactor
stems from the fact that they present an easier way to produce enriched Uranium. Iran is currently recieving technical assisstance from the EU in
exchange for its temporary halt on Uranium enrichment. Iran says that a permanent abandonment of its nuclear ambitions however would collapse the
government.

TEHRAN, Iran - Iran rejected a European demand to stop building a heavy water nuclear reactor in return for a light-water reactor Sunday, hardening
Iran's position on a key part of its nuclear facilities that critics claim is part of a weapons program.
The plants in question can be used to enrich uranium, a critical part in nuclear programs. Uranium enriched to low grades is used for fuel in nuclear
reactors, but further enrichment makes it suitable for atomic bombs.
A nuclear accord the Europeans signed with Iran last year halted Iran's uranium enrichment program at least temporarily but left Iran free to produce
plutonium, which also can be used to build nuclear weapons.

Iran is playing this game straight from Kim Jong Il's playbook, and the Europeans didn't learn anything from North Korea's back-stabbing of Clinton's
well-meaning efforts there. They are getting technical assisstance for a temporary halt while still producing Plutonium and are planning to resume
enrichment of Uranium later. Why would the EU waste money on efforts to stop something the Iranians clearly say they will never stop? In terms of
what's best for America (not necessarily what's right) it would be a good idea to have Israel hit those heavy water reactors ASAP, then somebody can
front Israel the money for "reparations" to pay for light water reactors instead.
