Does placing an embassy there add to Israel's claim (considering that the US already accepts the legitimacy of the state of Israel)? Does it detract from the claims of the Palestinian Authority (who consider their capital to be East Jerusalem)? Does it change anything but the small area of land that is 'owned' by the US?

Jerusalem is an important city to all Abrahamic tradition faiths, a situation that has existed for thousands of years. The majority of adherents to those faiths have cohabited there without incident for a long time.

I'm sure Jerusalem has enough accommodation for an embassy office, just as it does for a new hotel or supermarket chain.

An embassy in Jerusalem does not give Jerusalem to the Israeli's.
