Technically, that's not true. Subverting the foreign policy of the sitting President would be a violation of the Logan Act and that's exactly what happened.

That said, only two people have ever been prosecuted under the Logan Act in its more than two century existence and nobody has been convicted so it's pretty toothless and it's singular purpose seems to be making political claims of criminal malfeasance.

And there's the rub. Let's say Mueller tries to claim Trump violated this act. Given what you just explained, it's basically the equivalent of trying to bust Trump for stepping on sidewalk cracks. Republicans will (correctly) interpret it as a tacit admission that Mueller's investigation turned up nothing of substance, so he's trying to nail Trump on technical violations for something that any normal person doesn't care about.

That is the other side of the coin isn't it? When this is over, if Trump doesn't get charged with anything or it's just some silly technicality, #resisters are gonna be up the creek without a paddle. What are they gonna claim, that Mueller was a Russian agent? I think this is why Sessions recused himself and a special prosecutor got appointed. That way, when it was all over, nobody could complain that the investigation wasn't legit.

What the hell are these people gonna do when this is over?

that's my guess.

there's a good possibility that flynn caved because his son was implicated in some of his stuff and part of the deal was to keep his son in a safer position. so, going after one of trumps sons, or son in law, would put that kind of pressure on trump, possibly force him to resign.

Did Flynn get an agreement not to prosecute his son....we'll never know. Plea deals can get complicated.
