That's for a video game, it's not unheard of given the value of some virtual items in certain games. People are constantly trying to hack accounts in those games, so it's basically for security, they aren't pulling anything nefarious.

Except we've seen how lax cyber security has been even at some of the largest companies on the planet, including one which is dedicated to protecting your identity.

Then we will hear about the biggest security breach in history taking place shortly after FB servers get hacked.

Exactly my point. If the United States government and Equifax can get hacked what makes someone think anything else is safe?

Oh I know, a game I used to play once had their DB hacked, and all account infos were stolen and decoded. Almost every single person playing the game at that time was hacked. It was so rampant that the game which had a no reimbursement/compensation policy for hacked accounts, actually had to go ahead and restore every account that was hacked. It almost killed that game when it happened, and had they not done restorations it would have killed it for sure.

Nothing is secure online to a determined hacker.

The new authentication scheme is the second in recent weeks that relies on photos. Earlier this month, Facebook asked users to upload nude photos to Facebook Messenger, as part of an effort to prevent revenge porn.

So, I might need to send in nude pics of my dog? My dog is my Facebook pic.....

Agreed. As a paranoid wackjob who frequents a conspiracy website, I don't like the idea of anybody getting a good image of my face that they can then use to track me, profile me, sell me stuff, or in some other way categorize me for eventual confinement or extermination.

On the other hand, they already have so many images of me taken by covertly activating my computer camera that it probably doesn't make any difference.
