This weekend while watching the Buffalo Bills play the KC Chiefs in an Sunday NFL game a player took a move straight from Michael JAckson's Smototh Criminal. The player, Zay Jones, dives for a pass out of the end zone, and, somehow, rises back to his feet.

Even if it is an optical illusion (?), it has left me baffled!!

Check it out!!

Serious core muscles! If you notice, he pushes off giving momentum while throws back head and upper body while twisting back towards camera centering his gravity, and finishing off using his foot/calf muscles and the spin push-off momentum to get back up.

Smooth body control!

That is odd.
Guess that is what happens when you are in peak physical condition and have to get up a 100 times a day off the grass. You get good at it.

Looks like he just pushed himself up with his right leg.

That is an interesting video. He clearly pushes himself up partially by using his arms. I think the illusion of levitation comes in because as he's rising he also pivots on his toes. But what do I know.

Way better than kneeling.

Yep, you got it.

We do a similar get up in martial arts during our workout portion, although it's not from a prone position, but from the knees. It just looks so awkward because, like you noted, his core stays rigid (and his feet) and most of the way he got up involves momentum and his quad muscles.

I've seen Maynard from Tool pull off a similar move. Demons from Hell is the only explanation.

It didn’t strike me as odd. He’s just very agile because... he’s an athlete.

Lol evil.. I was gonna quip something along those lines..

"All that kneeling must give you mad muscles"

ahh well, good to see something relating to sports that doesn't involve a leg bent the wrong way or blood.

I dont see him pushing himself back up with his arms as has been explained away.

But slowed down to .25 it is clear all his weight is on his tippy toes and he is leaning forward around 45degrees yet @ 0:28 his inertia suddenly reverses to lift him up and backward while still leaning forward on his tippy toes.

Decent video proof during high speed sports decisions etc, that the matrix sometimes 'lags' a split second or so behind conscious actions are realized!

It's the weight on his right knee that gives in to the illusion.
