Anybody watching the inaugural Newcastle round ( season finale ) of the V8 Supercars ?

For those outside Australia, it is a three make car racing series featuring what look like locally produced road cars ... only heavily modified and capable of 300 kph.

Newcastle is 50km south of where I live and the telecast is a great showcase of the local area.

Check it out ...

I'm no car expert but this post brought memories of my Sister and her BF's car I think it was an El Camino. An 8 track and an engine that never stopped purring!

We even have a Ute race during this series.

El Camino being a Ute, as we call them in Oz.

We abbreviate a lot in Oz.

"Ute" is short for utility vehicle. 😎

Did you say...."Shree Hundrud Killomatrs purr our"?

Yeah...drives me up the wall, how Larko pronounces it!!

Sadly the whole Supercar series will finish soon.

Considering all 3 cars racing, are not even available in Oz anymore....the whole series is a sad silhouette.

And when the v6 turbos turn up....no thanks. Not to mention the "New" German Commodore, owned by the French, who have just announced they are getting rid of GM stuff as quick as they can.

I think the series will have to make way for either the GT3/4s, or a hot hatchback series with turbos and flames etc, or a generic body series, of no manufacturer, with either GM engines or any manufacturer engines...but no body style affinity.

Basically Speedway, with generic bodies on race chassis......

It will be a sad day.

Lucky I bought my FGX XR8, future classic.....Last of the Iiiiinterceptors Max!!!....

Improved production cars would be great, like it was in the 70's.

Race on Sunday ... sell on Monday !

Ed: With interest from the USA eg. Penske et al it could go in any number of directions.

Touring cars masters on next ... love dem ol school beasties !

Didn't get to watch the race, working, but always a good thrill. Go Newcastle.

Will go when they get up north coast again.

Went to hidden Valley a couple of times. Now in Northern Rivers.

Love the smell.

kind regards,

bally

Yeah, seems like they kicked a goal in Newy.

The locals came out in force and the weather was perfect.

McLaughlin threw the championship away with 3 laps to go ... oh well, that's motor racing !
