NEWS: Wine Bearing Joseph Stalins Picture Pulled From Canadian Liquor Stores

Government owned liquor stores in the province of Manitoba have pulled a bottle of wine bearing a picture of Soviet dictator Joseph Stalin on its label. This came after they received several complaints from the local Ukrainian community. The picture which included U.S. President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill was a commemoration of the Yalta conference.



Censorship on the grounds of political correctness has gone a bit far. If you find Stalin offensive, do not buy the product. The fact that it was not a "Stalin" only vintage makes it all the more puzzling. What next, stricken all pictures of Stalin from textbooks? It will be like the pictures we would get out of the Soviet Union during the cold war. As people fell out of favor they were airbrushed out. You started with 50 and ended up with 5.

It seems to me that we have a shift going on. More freedoms for the east and less for the west.

There is a large Ukranian population in Manitoba and I can certainly sympathize with their distaste in honouring a man responsible for the deaths of so many countrymen.

They exercised their right to protest, and the province (which owns the liquor stores) made a decision.

Corporations cave to public pressure all the time, this time the corporation just happened to be a government one.

Well, that makes sense. If you are a business owner I guess you give the customers what they want.
