My husband's in manufacturing, in a management position. His company has 2 night shifts, 2 day shifts. For example for anyone who needs clarifying, 4
days of the week go to one night shift while the other 3 go to the other night shift, then they reverse the following week (same for the day shifts)
so they have a total of 7 12 hour days/84 total hours baseline for a pay period.
Overtime is typically optional unless they ramp up production real heavy, but they do get it if they request it unless they have good reason to
suspect you're overworking yourself to a detriment (they would rather avoid burnout)
Right now, my husband's hours have been averaging 48 & 54 per week the past few months due to needing to be in there any extra day and a half day for
paperwork and meetings. He works the night shift (6pm-6am) so some of those meetings that can't be done during overnights have been a real bitch at
1pm for him.
His hours nor shift don't bother us much, the off days are enough for recouping and family time, even when he has to do the extra day and a half those
weeks.
