Former IRS executive Lois G. Lerner told a federal court last week that members of her family, including “young children,” face death threats and a real risk of physical harm if her explanation of the tea party targeting scandal becomes public.
Ms. Lerner and Holly Paz, her deputy at the IRS, filed documents in court Thursday saying tapes and transcripts of depositions they gave in a court case this year must remain sealed in perpetuity, or else they could spur an enraged public to retaliate.
“Whenever Mss. Lerner and Paz have been in the media spotlight, they have faced death threats and harassment,” attorneys for the two women argued.
Ms. Lerner came in for particular criticism, with the government admitting she not only didn’t stop the targeting — contradicting the Obama administration’s claims — but also hid it from her superiors in Washington.

Going back to the now well known IRS targeting scandal, at least 2 of the major players are seeking a court order to seal some of the records.
They want their testimonies sealed forever because they are afraid of threats from ... "The Public" !!
Lois is in Contempt of Congress and probably should be prosecuted.
Both understand they were just following orders (imo).
Apparently they have been "deposed" in connection with lawsuits following the exposure of the (mostly) illegal and over zealous targeting.
I imagine their lives have been total Hell since they got caught red handed.

Here's the thing, and all people in positions of power, former and current, could learn from this:
If one does not want to be afraid of the people, the way to avoid that is not to hide what one does wrong while in positions of power. It is instead to act with nothing but the utmost integrity, intelligence, compassion and decency, whilst in the offices to which one is appointed or elected.
For example, those bitching and whining about Snowden from within the US government, have no leg to stand on, because what he revealed to everyone, was that the very figures who have made the most noise about him, are those who have the most to lose if illegal programs like those revealed by Snowden, unconstitutional, freedom destroying, liberty eroding, unjustifiable programs like the mass surveillance program, are discontinued and broken up.
Lerner and Paz SHOULD have been terrified enough of the people BEFORE doing what they did, that they would never have considered doing it in the first place.
That being said, if their kids have been threatened, then the people that issued those threats need arresting, because I do not care who one is, or what one has done, ones children are off limits, and must always remain so.
