Yeah.

I wasn't aware of conspiracies related to helter-skelter before I looked, tbh it might have been what led me here to ats.

To me, the helter-skelter was a venue of good music and a ride I fondly remember using once as a kid that was basically a tower and a slide going around it.

It's good that we can now close that chapter in history. Been too long coming.

I could not agree with you more. There still many of his disciples still in jail so every few years they will pop back into the spotlight

Why should he be executed. His behavior was not normal. There was something wrong with him upstairs. Do you think it correct to murder people because they have an illness.. Sounds like something out of Nazi Germany. What is wrong with you.

Yes and know. It truly depends on the degree of mental illness. Ill or not Manson clearly knew what he was doing was wrong. Thats the difference IMHO He deserved the death penalty and should have been executed but for a court decision that commuted it to life without parole. Like it or not, the citizens of California have voted in capital punishment and time after time reaffirmed it.

By your definition "normal behavior" would essential excuse ANY crime no?

California is hardly Nazi Germany

There were any number of mysteries and unanswered questions regarding the whole Manson story. Addressed by me in this thread, if anybody's interested:

Did Sharon Tate deserve to live? Her unborn child?

Make no mistake, the death penalty isn't punishment, it's vengeance, retribution. ...and, for some crimes, it's well deserved.

Do you try to heal a rabid dog? Or do you put it down? That's Charlie Manson, or was Charlie Manson, now he's worm food. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

If you want to equate that with Nazi Germany, feel free.

Actually I'd be curious to see what the rest of the Manson Family has to say. But I doubt the ones incarcerated will say anything as they don't want to jeopardize their parole

Odds on any of them ever getting parole would seem to be slim and none...especially after one of them attempted to shoot Pres. Ford.

Is even Cali board of corrections that idiotic?

Do we really have to answer that one? However like you said, really don't feel any of them will see the light of day. is that right or wrong that is a question with answers with too many variables

Low hanging fruit and all!

a reply to: FredT

Yeah, considering there are still [victims] relatives alive I bet there is not going to be much said on their end.

On this, I tend to agree. Only God can properly sort it out. We're too flawed to ever really be able to judge it fairly, and some individuals are too far down their own rabbit holes to ever come back up.

I'm sure he has relatives who will miss him and I wish them peace.

A lot of vindictive posts here.

Save your venom for the ones who actually did the murders.

Yes, Yes the are. But that being said, the criteria for parole is what it is so my impression is that they have to abide by them

For all practical intents and purposes, he was a cult leader like Jim Jones. How many of his followers would have gone to do what they did without his influence in their lives? Much like Jim Jones and Jonestown ... how many of those people took the Kool-Aid on their own who would never have gone so far had it not been for Jones's influence on their lives?
