Have any examples of "those that would celebrate this statue" that "want to tear down other statues that they don't like."?

“He may not be perfect, but he’s perfect for D.C.”

I can almost see the author of that article laughing so hard they spewed coffee out their nose while writing that.

I agree. We should not stop that anymore than we should tear statues down.

Must we really rehash the confederate monument debacle?

with all the problems facing DC if they want to spend their money on this whatever thats the problem for the citizens of the city.

That said, if this is the best option they can find for their city I have to laugh.

True, but I think Blaine hit it right on the head. It is actually perfect for DC

Here's a working link to the WAPO article.
WAPO

Reaction can be, at best, be termed mixed, with ambivalence being part of the mixture.

Marion Barry was a good Mayor, overall. I have nothing against him, personally. Some Politicians do drugs, sleep with hookers, racketeer in their spare time, and a host of other mischievous deeds that would grant them free passage to Sodom and Gomorrah.

Barry isn't the only corrupt politician by any stretch but I don't know if he's deserving of a statue.

I'm on the fence on this one. Do we want children to see DC's crack smoking mayor immortalized? What kind of message does that send?

Clearly, he's a great role model.

It's not my 300,000 so if someone else ponies up the cash, I could care less.

It's not going into my parking spot at work and it's not being placed in front of my tv so I don't have to look at it.

Took this from the article...

“If you look at the good he did, then yes do it,” she said. “But if you look at the bad that he did, then no. You have to put it all together. He did more good than bad for the city, and the bad he did was to himself. And so many people liked and loved him.”

There's a word for what this is, can't think of it at the moment..

help me out ATS..

How is that a rehash of the Confederate statue debate? He stated something as fact, I asked for examples. He has none..yet. Maybe this should be in the Predictions forum then.

Yeah. Ideas are dangerous in a democracy.

It remains to be seen if the project will be carried out.

A crackhead felon getting a statue isn't an idea.

You just said it was, and asked whose it was.
Short attention span?

If anything positive about this can be said, it could be that now it's okay to have a racist, anti-gay marriage, drug-user for a statue!

Is the statue going to have a pipe in it's mouth and a bunch of crumpled Asians under his feet?
