Why would you get so worked up over someone's opinion? calm down dude, its their opinion stop crying

I'm pretty calm. In fact I'm laughing at you guys being outraged over something that has no effect in your lives. Shaking my head really. It's someone's opinion. Calm down.

Is it OK for me to teach my own son that he just can't assume he can be friends with any black kid or any Hispanic one?

Of course not.

That is basically what this author is teaching his or her children though.

You can't make friends with just any white kids because they might be KKK ...

Still don't understand why people are so outraged over an opinion piece.

Hey, white supremacy is just an opinion too. No need to be critical of it. Just an opinion.

Maybe they can have that opinion article next week. It's just an opinion. No need to think about it critically. Right? No reason to point out that it's racist.

Just an opinion piece.

No he is saying that children should be careful due to what happened in Charlottesville. It's a real threat.

Not so much the opinion, which is bad enough, but more so the NYT for giving that toxic perspective an international platform.

Can we comfortably assume now that the NYT and you will permit a piece that advocates white parents should teach their children to distrust POC because they might make assumptions about them being racist and therefore pose a risk to their safety?

I swear people wont be fully satisfied until there is routinely blood in the streets.

Nuts, the whole lot of you.

Yeah I'm worked up with laughters.

Just funny that you guys are outraged over something like this and yet silent about people making racist opinions about Obama.

It may not have an impact on my life, but what about my kid?

Here I am teaching him to be friendly to kids he likes, not kids who look like him. He's apparently making friends with some Muslim kids who ride the same school bus. OK. So what?

But what happens when he runs into the kids who parents are giving them this super-secret black-person talk?

When he comes home and asks me what it means that his former friend now can't be his friend because he's white (or looks straight up white), how do I explain that in context with how I've been teaching him?

Sorry, if racism is ever to have a chance to die away, then we need to be upset over this in all its manifestations, and it needs to be exposed and seen for what it is - everything from Charlotte to this. None of it is OK, but all of it needs to be seen.

But even a child’s joy is not immune to this ominous political period. This summer’s images of violence in Charlottesville, Va., prompted an array of questions.

You just got done saying it has no impact on us.

I just got done explaining how it could.

No sidestepping.
