personally I don't think it's a good idea. I think it would end up being very expensive per square foot of living area vs conventional construction.

i remember reading years ago about a guy took a bunch of school buses and buried them on his property and made a nice size underground bunker that could accommodate 200 hundred people but the authorities had a fit.
