NAACP calls US national anthem racist, demands its removal

The California chapter of the NAACP is pushing for ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ to be removed as the nation's national anthem, claiming it is “racist” and “anti-black people.”

“It's racist. It doesn't represent our community. It's anti-black people,”

The chapter says it will present a resolution to the California legislature which will call for the removal of ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ as the national anthem. They hope state lawmakers will forward the resolution to Congress.

The NAACP is accusing the US national anthem of being "racist" and "anti black people" due to one part of the lyrics that we don't include in the national anthem.

Most Americans don't even know those lyrics exist, because we don't include them when we recite the national anthem. Despite this, the NAACP is pushing legislation in an attempt to remove the entire national anthem from use. According to the president of California's NAACP, "It doesn't represent our community".

Because, frankly, the first and second verse are quite.. inapt.

in short words: first verse is about the territory, which encompasses here quite a part of Poland and about the superiority of Germany in views of Herrenrasse and such crap..
Second verse is much about wine (German), women (German) and loyalty (German, to Germany I guess).

Not much you would want in an anthem after WWII and such..

Are we supposed to pretend we didn't have slaves as did the rest of the world? Everybody had slaves. Probably even slaves had slaves. We just have to suck it up. We had them, but we don't anymore. We have evolved. Some countries still have them. Case in point, Dubai, United Arab Emirates, have Pakistani slaves, and anybody else they can trick into building those ridiculous structures.

I've always wanted an anthem based on the "Final Fantasy" anthem.

This is what happens when a single issue political institution outlives its own cause.

Yes.
And we have also evolved to the point where women are allowed to drive or even walk in public unescorted by a male relative. The world has a ways to go, but we are a lot better than some.

Ooooooh...I thought it was going to be the rockets' "red" glare that was the problem. I mean, why does it have to be a red glare? Why not a blue glare, or a green glare?

But seriously, idiots. The "slave" line wasn't pro-slavery at the time, just an acknowledgement that everyone around was affected, no matter their "class."

And...as others have said, we don't use that line.
