We just had a crazy ass bus driver kill 19 people last week by slamming into a bus stop filled with people and over turning his double decker.

He lived.

The govt cancelled the fireworks this year for CNY.

How many kids did that guy kill in NICE with a gun?

You want to kill people, you don't need a gun.

Blame the whackjob killing people.

Another thread by someone who is not an American trying to tell Americans how to run their country.

Color me surprised.

Another day, same ole crap.

So I am not saying people should be punished just sensible changes made.

Also this thread is not a knee jerk reaction to me it’s just common sense. Gun laws will not change until there is the political will and that will not happen until the electorate demand change en mass. Do you disagree with this???

I think most agree you cannot have 100% unregulated firearms, the only disagreement is what that level of regulation should be. I think it should be stronger than it is today, that is not about punishing existing gun owners it’s just changing the law to promote public safety. Much in the same way as making seat belts a legal requirement or making it so you can only get some drugs on prescription and so on. These laws are not about punishing people it’s about protection.

As a society and technology moves forward laws have to change with it to promote public safety. All I am saying is that I think society has reached a point we’re gun laws need to change to meet the demands of a changing society.

This is very much a social problem

I am not talking about gun grabbing.

I am talking about sensible changes.

Like upping the minimum age to 21to legally own a gun. As a example.

Yup fair points.

If someone is really wanting to commit mass murder they will do it.

That however does not change the fact that these types of mass shootings remain a uniquely American problem. Therefore I believe that gun laws should be made stricter to make it harder for those who wish to commit these crimes.

For a outsider looking in on all of this it looks like utter madness that almost twenty years on from collombine this it still happening regularly and there has been very little real change to gun laws

What do you think happens when you create more law. Then when those laws are broken?

This thread is the antithesis of common sense. From your OP:

The truth is that every time you defend your right to own a gun you are defending the rights of the shooter as well and as such I believe you have blood on your hands. So long as you continue to defend your precious second amendment you are defending the ability for these men to walk into a church or school and kill indiscriminately.

How, in any logical terms, does this apply? Can we use it to justify vehicle use? Hammers? Knives? Bats?

There is not one lick of logic in that statement.

I think we just disagree on this issue I can respect a difference in opinion as being just that. It’s unfortunate we can not find common ground on this but I have stated my views on this as you have stated yours so I don’t think there is much more to be said.

Have a good day.

Problem is, How, without affecting the whole population for the crimes of a few?

Need that mental detector someone mentioned somewhere.

Why is that other countries have less gun violence but a lot of guns? Like Sweden?

It's not like this can't happen there, ever.

A few days ago some idiot took a machete to people in a mall in Beijing. Killed 1.

Lots of whacko's in the world.

Hell, even you or I could go off someday.

Like Douglas in Falling Down.

This kid planned it, tho. Even his escape.

So it's more than getting pissed off in the moment. (crime of passion)

Does that mean shoot first, ask questions later?

Or does that only apply to the cops?

This latest shooter was know to the cops as having mental illness.

They had been called to the home where he was living OVER 24 TIMES because of his mental problems.

The FBI also knew of his threats to schools that he made on YouTube

Nether of these agencies did anything to restrict him having guns or as far as i can tell talked to each other.

Its like the these agencies wanted mass shootings.
