So far, all that's been done is show pro Russian Ukainian interests using Manafort and Podesta Group and Mercury to peddle influence in Congress and the Obama administration during the timeframe leading up to Russia Annexing of Crimeria. Remember Russia NOT being our #1 Geopolitical foe?

......but right, Trump Supporters did that.

I think what you're missing is that Trump supporters were always going to be Trump supporters because they were never going to be Hillary supporters. You don't need the Russians to make you like him and hate her (or vice versa), they do a good job of that on their own.

If they did interfere to the level claimed they must have thought it was worth considerable investment.

Destabilising a world power and rival is worth a few million dollars. Cheap at twice the price!

Thats the thing, the Russians really stirred that pot in favour of Trump, its something they seem to be very good at.

Firstly I would suggest you hide behind the sofa and put a saucepan on your head for protection as you have some big shizzle coming at you for this

Secondly is there really any way of knowing that whatever happened was enough to make a difference? Would Trump have been elected without any interference from the outside?

God speed.

Too many people believe anything they read on FB. The adds taken out by Russia against Hillary, Pro trump were viewed and shared MILLIONS of times. That is just FB. It is shocking how many people believe what they read and don't look it up to fact check. Russia used the average Americans laziness to help trump win...

trump lost the popular vote by millions, Russia didn't have to sway too many votes to make a HUGE MASSIVE difference, as the election was close. Who knows how many stupid people fell for all the Face Book BS, and that is not the only thing Russia did, to interfere.

trump needs to go. I am sure there are more indictments to come, and now he is throwing Kushner under the bus. Sad, he appoints an inexperienced staff, who know NOTHING about politics, but happen to be his family members, and when they don't know what they are doing he dumps on them.

This administration is just a sad moment in American History. Once more people are indicted, arrested, and found guilty maybe then it will start to sink into the people who are still supporting him.

It has a predominately right leaning membership who also lean toward conspiracy and as such strong mistrust of government so in terms of our community on ATS, yes you do have a very good point. However I think for the wider electorate not so much.

ATS did not always have the current political slant it has now, I've been here long enough to here the cries of 'oh, this place is so Leftist!!!' more than once.

The wider electorate, whether you are on the right or left, is going to pull the lever for their person, the Russians aren't making them do that, the two party system is and the ones who don't, like me, end up voting for a piece of Australian Socialist cheesecake.

I have to agree with that but what about the gullable middle ground?

If they did interfere to the level claimed they must have thought it was worth considerable investment.

I think the people in the middle are the most informed voters out there since they don't abide by the two party paradigm.

I was thinking more about the uninformed percentage that use social media as thier source of information.

We have the same in the UK obviously and fringe parties like UKIP can pick up an alarming amount of support by using factless memes and lying stories pushed out and shared on facebook and twitter.

I assume you have a percentage of there types also, that will pick up on base points like immigration or such and vote on a single policy that could be groundless in it's standpoint.

I am glad to see that you understand the points I am trying to make.

The Russians manipulation of the election was masterful, if they can do this to America then they can do it anywhere, it effectively makes them the most powerful state in the world because they have now demonstrated that they can manipulate the politics of any state to elect a pro-Russian leader.

It’s just propaganda from a British troll farm meant to dehumanize people who voted for someone their state-run media didn’t like.

The difference between Russian and British trolls, the Russian ones are paid, while the others spread misinformation for free.

You're an idiot, 'nuff said.

Well thats the end of that discussion then.

Never a discussion to be had, did you read the OP? did you assess the history of the author in regards to Trump?
These threads require a simple response for simple mindedness OP, its that simple.

I disagree.

From your perspective there is no discussion because you have already made up your mind to defend to the end your own personal beleifs and nothing will change that.

False.

The premise of the thread is about placing blame on a group of people for an issue that isn't even determined to be any real game changer. No facts are presented and already anything to do with Trump is evil.

It isn't a matter of beliefs or made up mind. This is experience in knowing how to deal with trolls. Oh the irony...

You trying to make a discussion out of it is pretty humurous.

I personally feel that both of them had enough of a public track record that even the 'uninformed' already had their minds mostly made up heading into the election. Could Russia have swayed a few people? Sure. But I don't think it was enough to push the election in one direction or another. I think they did it so we think that's what happened and spend more time eating our own instead of focusing on other issues.

Trump didn't need russia to win . Hilary's incompetence , history of lies , deception , and body count of her and her husbands trail , was enough for the american people.

Stop peddling the nothing burger of Russia . USA is the biggest meddler of elections in other countries by far .... Do as i say not as i do right ?

Hilary lost , Liberals just using Russia as an excuse for their fallen hero hilary . Its simple as that.

Who writes a book of excuses called "What happened" ? LOL

be anti-trump all you want , end of the day its a witch hunt , and waste of tax payer dollars. They have nothing on trump , but sadly liberals don't care about the truth , they love smear campaigns .

Liberalism seriously is a mental disorder.

The majority of Americans watch MSM.
The MSM tried hard to influence it's viewers to vote for Hillary, yet Hillary still lost.
But somehow we are supposed to believe that Facebook ads tipped the scale in favor of Trump?

Fake News!

Actually I am all for democracy, I just think that when it is being undermined by a foreign actor that must be identified and challenged. It undermines democracy when a hostile state is influencing the electorate with hacking, fake news and social media manipulation.

Again though you make a fair point about Karma, America has at times taken similar actions to play kingmaker in other states.

But what gives Russia the monopoly on this tactic? it is not like htey can patent it is it?

As we are all aware nations have been influencing policical decisions in other nations forever and this is just another method that Russia used first.

These are the kind of posts that really just don't help.

How is having any kind of political view point one way or the other a mental disorder?

Just because someone disagrees with you politically you claim they have a mental disorder.

Don't you see how utterly stupid that is?

Again another really good point.

As I mentioned previously in a response to another member, America has been well known for taking steps to play kingmaker in other states over the years using various methods.

They done it before they could do it again, they could learn from what Russia has done to them and recreate it in a why that is in their national interests.

But then how far does this go before it destroys democracy?
