The US picks the wrong friends. China is a communist dictatorship that steals hundreds of billions from hard working Americans every single year. Chinese oligarchs are the most corrupt in the world. They live off slave wages, inhumane, no concern for the environment.

Saudi Arabia is an absolute monarchy. Out of time. Backward. Oppressive. No political freedom. No parliament. No election. Oppresses women.

Russia is a democratic western nation with strong western values. A key ally against Sunni jihadists.

Iran is a democratic republic. The most democratic Muslim country. Direct election by the people. Strong proponent of women's rights. Key ally against Sunni jihadists.

The US always tend to pick the wrong friends. China and Saudi Arabia are not friends. They are enemies. America's friends should be Russia and Iran.

The idea that empires pick friends and enemies on the basis of who is good and bad is quaint.

Freinds are those who are compliant. Enemies are those that are not. Freinds can become enemies and enemies friends rapidly as circumstances change. Even as the nature of the country itself remains the same.

Compliant Russia (friends), assertive Russia (enemy).

Compliant islamic saudi regime (friends), assertive islamic Iranian regime (enemy).

When Assad took over in Syria efforts were made to pull into the compliant (friend) camp. When he was reluctant then 'civilised meeting the queen potential friend Assad' turned into 'evil maniac Assad' in the blink of an eye.

I find when viewed like this actions make more sense.

Seems to me I remember the Constitution saying something about a Republic...

It's a quasi-socialist republic with an economy driven by a huge military force. And a damn good one.

Closer than most.

I would say it's *supposed* to be a Representative Republic which is *supposed* to protect the rights of the individual before all.

But in reality it's closest to an Oligarchy run by powerful men and corporations with no regards for anything but profits.

The United States' biggest enemies are in the boardrooms and halls of government, not some foreign power.

Hold on, there's a knock at the door and a funny looking bird overhead...

under normal circumstances saudi arabia would be facing a beatdown of epic proportions.
they support isis and are the only country on the planet that promote wahhabism but, with the royal family personally owning the american president, they bailed his bankruptcies out numerous times, and funding the uk military no harm shall be done to them.
let's continue blaming all of islam and shout iran.

Maybe some day Iran as well as Russia can be our allies. (When there is no "Khomeini", and no Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin.)

To get a reasonable picture of the state and progression of international affairs you need to read up on 1 OECD and 2 BRICAS . To get an idea of the real 'upstairs' state of affairs you need to understand 1 The Co-Operation Organisation/five eyes and 2 The Shanghai Co-Operation Organisation . Add in some Petrodollar/OPEC research and add in some World Banking knowledge , and consider which countries the IMF _don't haven't wont or can't oversee . Which the WTO have stuck at the back of the queue over the years . Stick in a dose of current events, taste the salt ofcounter/counter economic scheming and you'll see the West's dominance is fast on the wane , North America and its allies will be the old order by sometime soon. Maybe even right now while they're trading oil in Yuan in Trumps face, and Saudi is meeting Russia - for the first time- October7th this year. There is no guarantee that the new world orderers (read China and its allies) will be any less controlling and greed driven however they have made some promising overtures

That's some very sound words you printed there.

Star for the post.

I think it can be summed up better by the Latin phrase "Cui bono?"

Or as I have been saying for years "Follow the money and you'll know the answer."

MAYBE when we greatly reduce our need for oil, we can finally get rid of those awful people.

I didn't realize China was our "friend"?

Aren't we kind of in a cold war over the South Pacific with them?

Then there's the issue of Taiwan...

Russia wouldn't really be an enemy if we just enforced the proper sanctions our congress passed and 45 signed off on. Apple computer is worth more than Russia, and they're facing a massive population decline by 2030 if things don't change.

That's kind of what happens when you let your country get overrun by organized crime, corruption, and cronyism.

So, naturally they're getting desperate to regain some of their former glory by knocking down the USA a little bit.

'Member when Russia all but was caught red-handed purchasing influence in US democracy? Trying to influence, subvert, and cause race wars and rioting in American streets?

If that's not an act of aggression against the USA, I don't know what is.
