I’m not saying this as a reaction to any particular recent news. I’m just ranting because I’m in the middle of a boring lecture and decided to just write this out. If I have typos sorry. I’m typing with my phone and I don’t feel like correcting any mispells.

Everyday I see junkies on the subway, ads for hypersexualized shows and ads for food that fattens you up and crushes your heart. I hear about stress and depression, and infomercials that push a drug to solve it. Drugs that will keep coming your way while someone makes money off of your dying spirit.

People chase their happiness halfway around the world, looking for a quick fix, looking at celebrities as a model for how to be happy when these celebrities are often miserable themselves.

Many escape their perceived hardships by “stress eating” or watching tv, looking for outside stimuli and veering away from human contact in favor of artificial pleasures.

I am guilty of this and have been trying to change it, and I give a lot of political commentary here but I’m trying to do it less often. I just want to say that we should talk to each other more. Get out more. Love yourself a little better. You are so much more than whatever you’re being right now.

Join a sports league, eat better, and talk to the people that you may run into everyday but never speak to. In college I used to see some people everyday last year.

But I’d stay away. I’d keep to myself when all I have to do is just speak to someone, and I don’t doubt that some of these people felt the same way.

We can all do so much more than what we are now. Go to the gym, talk to that girl regardless of rejection or not. Don’t make your happiness dependent on her reaction to you. If we all do this the country might become a little less filthy.

Enjoy your school boy days, make as many friends and connections as you possibly can, make no enemies because in the real world you just might need those people.

The old adage..."it's not what you know but who you know' is more true today than you can ever imagine.

The best paying gig I ever had was a referral from a friend I graduated with over 15 years ago and hadn't seen in at least 10.

You ought to travel the world a bit before coming up with a comment like that.
Firstly let me say "get off that bloody phone and listen to the lecture your education depends on it" and that's because you're a degenerate thinking your educations got nothing to do with you.
Now to answer to your post. America is no more degenerate than any other opulent country, just cos you haven't been to any and if you have you've not looked close enough.

Here...as in ATS? You just registered today, lol, unless...

Maybe pay attention to your lecture, ya know?

I disagree with you. I don't think you could go to Norway and see the same amount of obesity, Hollywood hypersexuality, nor could you go to a place like Italy and see this same kind of drugged up, sexualized culture that is being poured onto this country. I'm going to play intramurals in a bit so I probably won't be able to answer any of your further posts, but I would say that if you think that taking a few minutes off of lecture is degenerate, you may not know what being a degenerate is. I genuinely don't think you have even looked up the word.

I haven't traveled the entire world but America seems particularly downtrodden health wise and morally.

How do we know you haven't created a second account so you can have conversations with yourself?

Then you need to get out more, maybe actually see the country around you, not just what agrees with your perceptions of it.

Why do we care if he talks to himself?

16c.) Multiple Accounts: You will not create multiple user accounts and "talk to yourself."/quote]

Because it's kind of silly when somebody uses multiple accounts to talk themselves for any number of reasons, and ATS likes to avoid that.

Ok lets take your post at face value.

You are in College. This implies (but does not assure) that you are quite young, which in turn not that well travelled, or experienced. I do not say this as an attack, just a comment.

Do you feel that what you witness is nationwide, or local? When I lived in the USA (for about a decade in the 00s) I traveled a lot. I saw great variances between the regions.

Define "filthy". What is your problem with the USA?

Actually you'd be surprised. Italy is one of the most drugged up sexualised cultures. German porn has to be seen to be believed. In Holland you can see girls perform sex acts on stage with four-legged-friends.

There is nothing uniquely degenerate about America. If anything, our American cousins are rather prudish and amateurish when it comes to real sex scandals.

What you really mean is a lot of human beings are kinky beyond belief. But that's not the same as being 'degenerate'. Because who is the ultimate arbiter of morality here? You? Me? God?

Obesity rates in the UK are almost as high as the US. And obesity in the US has more to do with the corn syrup that is stuffed into all of your food than anything else.

Drugs are a problem everywhere, from the third world to the first world. Look at the opium problem in China, the heroin problem in India, etc, etc.

I'd echo the advice of others here, travel the world young man. Have your eyes opened to a broader range of experiences. You'll discover the word 'degenerate' is fundamentally meaningless.

Good luck to you. It's worth doing. You'll uncover many important truths about humanity.

Your OP is not incorrect for the most part. I am reminded on "Fight Club," in ways.

We seem to try to fill our personal voids with all the BS that society has said we should fill it with for satisfaction, in false hopes of happiness or satisfaction, and we still wonder why we are not happy or satisfied: we're seeking the wrong things.

Marketing reinforces this, and pop culture props it up. Not everyone is beautiful, not everyone is talented, not everyone is successful, or smart. Our narcotics are consumerism and entertainment, anything to placate us and sedate us, including drugs and alcohol and constant distractions.

Seeing some of the world would have shown the OP a lot of this. I think if you are stuck in one country you often think "oh this is the worst". However seeing bits of Africa, South America, and Europe made me glad I Grew up in New Zealand, and that my time in the USA (living in Milwaukee (ugh)) was mild. SOme of my worst experiences were in London.

For sure, yes. Spend a week living in the slums of Calcutta, and even the bad parts of America will suddenly start to look really rather nice.

I found Los Angeles rather mild.

People are just people, the world over eh. Some of them are nice, some of them suck. Most are out for themselves, because that's how we evolved.

I feel that as someone who has been fortunate to travel the world (and live in two countries) .... I've been able to discern that there is more to life than "where you grew up". If I had stayed in New Zealand (despite returning here (for now)) I would never have experienced the things that have given me the work ethic I have, or the appreciation for a variation of countryside (Wisconsin and the Midwest is boring
).

There are bits of Wellington (where I live) where I see junkies, and people who could do with a lifestyle change. Yet other bits where I see a variety of ethnicities getting along (perhaps some would see this degenerate? ).

My advise to the OP, is travel the world, then see what you think. Sadly Pepee the frog in the user picture makes me think this is wasted effort on my part
