This will make you think, or not.

Brown guy kills 8 with a truck: "WALLS! BANS! BARRICADES!"

White guy kills 59 with guns: "well what can you do"

The problem is, it's completely false.

I guess the best racial strategy is not to participate.

brown people - A scapegoat is a person or animal which takes on the sins of others, or is unfairly blamed for problems. The concept originally comes from Leviticus, in which a goat is designated to be cast into the desert with the sins of the community.

Opinions cannot be false.

Just because you think your opinion is a fact doesn't make it so.

Yes, I'd like to know what the plan is for stopping another shooter like the Las Vegas guy. Last I heard from anyone on this site was, "we can't stop these things, they are just going to happen sometimes".

even "bump stocks" can't get outlawed by this impotent republican congress. but, tax breaks for the wealthy, no problem.....how many decades need to pass before voters finally get it? they don't give a s**t about poor people, they want them to just go away and die.

If you think bumpstocks or any firearm, or any other firearm mod is the issue then you need to sit down and rethink your whole outlook on life. Guns arent the issue, the people behind them are the issue.

Are we going to call for a ban on automobiles? All vehicles must be fully autonomous? Lets arrest all persons in possession with non-autonomous vehicles. Modifying vehicles is now a felony punishable by up to life in prison. All knives, objects with sharp edges, anything that's made from a substance harder than that of NERF foam shall be outlawed.

What is it with people blaming guns for everything? Is it just an irrational fear? Are people scared that firearms wake up in the middle of the night and go on rampages?

The biggest issue with firearms, for those who own them, and especially for those who oppose them, is the lack of education about them. Banning, restricting, or otherwise inhibiting the ownership of a firearm is unconstitutional at best, and does nothing except make criminals out of law abiding citizens. The ones who obtain firearms and use them in nefarious ways, will do so whether you strip legal gun owners of their rights or not. The ONLY people punished by banning/restricting firearms are the legal law abiding owners, period.

You forgot bathtubs and power tools

Probably because unless somebody has a plan to make all firearms disappear, somebody somewhere is going to use firearms to help them commit criminal acts.

Huh?

It seems more like this to me:

Brown guy kills 8 with a truck: "WALLS! BANS! BARRICADES! A MORE POWERFUL GOVERNMENT!"

White guy kills 59 with guns: "WE NEED MORE SECURITY TECH! STRICTER GUN CONTROL! A MORE POWERFUL GOVERNMENT!"

If there are people who can further a political agenda by exploiting a tragedy, they are definitely 'Equal Opportunists.'

You are right. No one spoke with those exact words. But some people believe there is some truth in the zeitgeist of the comment.

It's still good commentary on how people react to both events. In one case practically nothing. In the other case screams to action.

I have to step in on this one for a second.

This argument is not valid and borderline ridiculous. You cannot compare guns (especially gun violence) with automobiles and knives etc.

What were cars, trucks, knives and such manufactured for? They have their own purpose but can be used to commit acts of violence against other people. However, firearms are designed to kill. (and don't step in with "but target shooting", because that is only used to the degree of practicing your aim for live targets)

And to say "it's the shooter not the weapon" ignores the fact that it would be much more difficult for that person if he were not holding a firearm. Firearms themselves may not be causing the deaths, but they sure as f**k make it a lot easier.

And if you step in with the ignorant line of thought "i've left my gun out all night and it didn't shoot anybody", you are anthropomorphizing an inanimate object and therefore being obtuse.

It's one thing to love your guns. Hell, I love mine. But it's another thing to try and divert the attention away from the damage modern weapons can inflict. Please understand, regulation does not equal banishment.
