Halloween is easily my favorite festival day of the year, and if I had the money to do it, I'd certainly have the whole yard strapped up in decorations, a small maze and so on and so forth.

However, I was never into the "cutesy" decorations, even when I was young. My goal was to bring out the horror in Halloween (safely of course).

Unfortunately, in the last few years I have had both no time or funds to celebrate it. But this year I managed to get some spare time (Not as much as Id prefer), and finally got to make a costume.

Here's my inspiration:

So with two weeks and a day per week of free time, Here's what I came up with.

Off to the arts and crafts store:

_________

And some old clothing I had on hand, or my family didn't need/want or was going to throw away:

_________

These look a bit too nice for a dystopian apocalypse

_________

A quick Hack saw will do the trick:

_________

Leather jacket, about 4 sizes too big for me. Taping it off for some paint:

And painted

_________

Skinny Jeans... I needed some extra fabric

_________

Much better

_________

Didn't have enough time to create the mask identically. But I did have an Airsoft Mask that worked well

_________

After distressing the clothing (like the shoes), it was all ready for some stains

(black acrylic paint with water)

_________

The Jackets all dry now

Standard spray paint sicks surprisingly well to leather

_________

Time for some sewing and grommets to stitch everything together. I had a few spots where I simply ran out of grommets, so I just poked holes in it. Over the length of the day the grommets held perfectly and were surprisingly strong. The holes ended up tearing a bit (not an issue, but good to know for the future costumes)

_________

Remember the skinny jeans? Now they're hand wraps

_________

Overcoat test. Holding up well, needed to pin back the yellow side to match the Concept art.

_________

Final product. Ready to scare some kids at the door!

2 days of work, about 3 hours per day over 2 weeks. I think it turned out pretty good, but am a bit frustrated I didn't have the time to truly replicate the mask.

Next year's going to be much better though. Already have a few main pieces picked out and ready to build.

How did your costumes turn out?

Looks sort of like a road construction worker with his hardhat slid over his face.

It will scare the hell out of the kids, mom and dad always get so crazy when they get held up at construction sites. Kids will associate these workers with crazy parents.

Yes, the goal is to get the kids full of PTSD before they hit puberty, that way they will learn to fear life properly every time they see construction

Nice work Ghost!

You're one creative being. Do tell how the kiddies enjoyed the trick before the treat!

Thanks!

So far we've had about 40 kids, lots of screams. 2 ran away. 3 parents looked upset at me.

Successful so far. They're still coming.

The more that run away, the more treats I get for myself

That's awesome! It looks great! I am sitting at my desk dressed as a black cat. A slinky black cat, with fuzzy, tall ears, with white fuzzy lining.
And I even have on my skeleton-glow-in-the-dark earrings. Meow.

I'm not very scary though, like you. Purrrr. I'm surprised the kids didn't run away!

I had sound effects too, though. When I opened the door they heard a bunch of wolves howling, a monster screaming, and witches cackling.
hehe.

Well it's over. I now have on pajama pants and a sweat shirt.
Meet me next year, same place, same time.

Pajamas and a sweat shirt does not diminish sexiness!

Buried a pomegranate in the front yard with my daughter and had a silent supper but, other than that, nah. Too many trick-or-treaters.

But their souls are replenishing me, muahahahahahahaahahah!

Good work!

I loved that part where you transformed the skinny jeans in something useful.
I "love" skinny jeans too....

Nice. I always want to spend time making a cool costume, but I always end up just getting a mask and putting it with something I already have.
