The Peace of God to all that belong to the Light
Dear Readers,
On this year the world of science celebrated the 110 years of the death of Dmitri Mendeleieev who discovered the periodic arrangement of Chemical
elements.
We know he faced great challenges in his life:
He was the youngest of 14 to 17 siblings, adcording with different biographers.
His father Ivan Pavlovich Mendeleieev who was a Philosophy teacher was raised on an Orthodox seminary, Dmitri grandfather was Pavel Maximovich
Sokolov, a priest of the Russian Orthodox Church from the Tver region. it was in the seminar where his original surname Sokoloff was changed to
Mendeleieev.
Unfortunately Ivan became blind when Dmitri was a child, so was the mother who supported the home. His father died when he was 13 years old.
Dmitri was born in Verkhnie Aremzyani, a very small village near Tobolsk, Siberia. That was a very difficult place to pursue an Academic career, but
soon after he finished his high school, he moved with his mother to Moscow, where he was motivated by her to apply to the Prestigious Lomonosov
University, but his application was rejected.
He was finally admitted in St Petersburg University, but his mother died during his first year of studies there. Dmitri sadly acquired TB living in St
Petersburg, so he spent years recovering from the illness in Crimea.
Although his discovery of a classification of Chemistry elements have had tremendous impact as few things in modern civilization his nomination to the
Nobel of Chemistry was not successful in 1906 nor in 1907 when he died.

D. Mendeleieev: No Law of Nature, however general has been established at once, his recognition has been preceeded by many presentiments.
This year is also the 150 anniversary of when Dmitri Mendeleieev Taught first time in his Alma Mater, St Petersburg University, where he worked the
rest of his life. He had lost in his early months in that city, when he was just a college student, his mother and sister both killed by the same
illness he fought bravely to survive: Tuberculosis.

Although Mendeleieev never won the Nobel Prize of Chemistry was awarded with the Russian Demidov Award and the Copley medal, also Crater on Moon is
named after him.
After him was also named Mendelevium, which is a synthetic chemical element with the symbol Md (formerly Mv) and the atomic number 101. It is a
metallic radioactive transuranic element in the actinide series, usually synthesized by bombarding einsteinium with alpha particles.

It was in Germany where he graduated Doctor of Science, in 1865 with doctoral dissertation "A Discourse on the combination of alcohol and water"
being his adviser was Gustav Kirchhoff, a German Physicist of University of Berlin.
The key concepts on classification of elements atoms came to Mendelieev on his years in post doc at Heidelberg, Germany in 1860s, when he lived and
hanged out with two other Russians Chemists, both famous music Composers, Alexander Borodin and Ivan Sechenov.
