With parents concerned with the clinic staff just excepting the child's claims (and at that age could be called a whim) and with one women's daughter being referred to the trans clinic after a 40 minute consult. I would say that there is room for concern.
But dr's are afraid of being sued for "challenging the patient's opinion" of being born in the wrong bod". Being sued is a good reason to just do your job. in fact why see a Dr? Just go to the trans clinic.

Parents are concerned that clinic staff are 'blindly accepting' children's claims
Campaign group Transgender Trend receives pleas for help from parents
One mother was stunned when a 15-year-old girl was referred to a specialist transgender clinic after a consultation of just 40 minutes

Concerned parents have spoken of their worry that clinic staff are ‘blindly accepting’ children’s claims that they were born the wrong sex and are failing to treat serious mental health conditions.

Doctors fear being sued after the NHS signed a ‘memorandum of understanding’ banning staff from challenging patients who believe they are born the wrong sex;

Teenage YouTube stars who enthuse about changing sex are making being transgender ‘cool’, according to parents;

Message boards with the trans or LGBT lifestyle are a concern for parents as well. Their is concern that this is a trend that the kids will regret and that the therapists are not looking at other reasons for the child being fixated on the issue of their gender.

Messages promoting being transgender are being shared widely among young people on popular social media sites such as Instagram and Tumblr.

One message, entitled ‘just LGBT [lesbian gay bisexual and transgender] stuff’, provides advice on how to get ‘chest binders’ that can be used to enable a girl to look like a boy.

Web users can get tips on how to obtain hormone drugs and other sex change aids. But some of the messages are more sinister. Anonymous writers encourage teenagers to harm themselves or even to threaten suicide if their parents refuse to allow them to swap gender.

100's of stories have been posted with parents very worried about their kids and Trans issues. Stephanie Arai-Davies who runs Transgender Trend is worried as well with the surge over the last 2 years. She thinks the therapists are too fast in sending the kids to a gender clinic.

Hundreds of alarming stories have been posted over the past two months on an online forum set up by a father who says his teenage daughter is making a mistake in seeking to change gen
Is this increase in Trans cases just a realization of the reality of being born in the wrong body? OR is it the modern equivalent of jamming as many people into a phone booth-neck tattoos-body mods-pet rocks but with the internet it is much more accessible?

Like we didn't know they would push this crap through peer pressure and social fame. This was all predicted in the 1960's (3 minutes of truth from Paul Harvey)

Big surprise.

Right from the playbook:

25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV.

26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as "normal, natural, healthy."

27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with "social" religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity, which does not need a "religious crutch."

28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of "separation of church and state."

40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce.

3 minutes of complete Truth:

If I were the prince of darkness, I would want to engulf the whole world in darkness.

I’d have a third of its real estate and four-fifths of its population, but I would not be happy until I had seized the ripest apple on the tree — thee.

So, I would set about however necessary to take over the United States.

I’d subvert the churches first, and I would begin with a campaign of whispers.

With the wisdom of a serpent, I would whisper to you as I whispered to Eve: “Do as you please.”

To the young, I would whisper that the Bible is a myth. I would convince the children that man created God instead of the other way around. I’d confide that what’s bad is good and what’s good is square.

And the old, I would teach to pray after me, “Our Father, which are in Washington …”

Then, I’d get organized, I’d educate authors in how to make lurid literature exciting so that anything else would appear dull and uninteresting.

I’d peddle narcotics to whom I could. I’d sell alcohol to ladies and gentlemen of distinction. I’d tranquilize the rest with pills.

If I were the devil, I’d soon have families at war with themselves, churches at war with themselves and nations at war with themselves until each, in its turn, was consumed.

And with promises of higher ratings, I’d have mesmerizing media fanning the flames.

If I were the devil, I would encourage schools to refine young intellect but neglect to discipline emotions. I’d tell teachers to let those students run wild. And before you knew it, you’d have drug-sniffing dogs and metal detectors at every schoolhouse door.

With a decade, I’d have prisons overflowing and judges promoting pornography. Soon, I would evict God from the courthouse and the schoolhouse and them from the houses of Congress.

In his own churches, I would substitute psychology for religion and deify science. I’d lure priests and pastors into misusing boys and girls and church money.

If I were the devil, I’d take from those who have and give to those who wanted until I had killed the incentive of the ambitious.

What’ll you bet I couldn’t get whole states to promote gambling as the way to get rich?

I’d convince the young that marriage is old-fashioned, that swinging is more fun and that what you see on television is the way to be.

And thus, I could undress you in public and lure you into bed with diseases for which there are no cures.

In other words, if I were the devil, I’d just keep right on doing what he’s doing.

I wondered how this is going to shake out in 10 years. Are we going to see a spike in buyers remorse from the kids who transition?

Does it have to be Either/Or ? Why not both. It's new, it's exciting, it's transgenderism. When in human history has anyone even had the knowledge of this possibility. Never. The thrill of taking part in a huge experiment like this could be thrilling. To think " I could be part of a new type of human, of a new direction for our species might be consuming.

Soon it might be like up grades on our phones. And next year I want my dick back. And how about those who want an extra breast like the little gal in Total Recall. Talk about applications.

Funny, the NHS is saying just the opposite.

Most treatments offered at this stage are psychological, rather than medical or surgical. This is because the majority of children with suspected gender dysphoria don't have the condition once they reach puberty. Psychological support offers young people and their families a chance to discuss their thoughts and receive support to help them cope with the emotional distress of the condition, without rushing into more drastic treatments--

Yup and their source, Transgender Trend is an organisation who don't believe gender dysphoria exists. I think it's a follow up to both groups being outraged at the BBC for showing trans fish on Blue Planet.

I tend to agree with the idea that Transgender Trend is focusing in on about kids and transitioning. It is a big decision and knowing that kids in their early teens do not understand the motivations of some orgs and the seriousness of what they are doing. Caution should be applied and a 40 minute consult with a therapist then off the the trans clinic is not in the best interest of the child.

Where did you get the idea anyone is banging any drum. (code word for dissenting opinions to shut up)?

There is no need to be phobic about homo-phobics.

not at all, it's a code word for you sending out a signal, akin to a dog whistle, about how scary this all is for you. so scary you can't be arsed to really do a thorough check on your sources... kinda like that thread about the gold star widow's phone call and how the media lied except whoops, different widow.

Wrong, I am a very welcoming person as far as alternate views go. I urge caution with children, because they are children.

Hair trigger responses that claim dissenting to a liberal view is an automatic homophobic view is silly and small.

I think that this is just something that is happening because gender dysmorphia is now more widely recognised and accepted in society.

The stats are actually more like 39 per week according to The Gender Identity Development Service but even 50 per week is not a huge amount however it is growing. Like I say I think the reason for this growth is more to do with transpersons being more widely accepted into society than ever before.

Now weather you are ok with that or not is very much down to personal opinion, personally if Jill wants to be Jim then who am I to deny that.

Currently its difficult to determine exactly how much the NHS is spending on gender reassignment operations and I can understand why some would object from that point of view. However I would point out that the NHS also provides gastric band surgeries, breast enhancements, abortions and a whole range of other procedures that some might take issue with. So then it comes down to how to we pick and chose what services the NHS does and does not provide. For individuals with gender dysmorphia having surgery can massively improve their quality of life, much in the same way as other operations improve quality of life.

I would also highlight that just because these kids are being referred to the clinics does not mean that they all end up undergoing gender reassignment surgery. I remember reading once that roughly 30% of pre-pubescent kids who attend these clinics actually end up undergoing surgery or hormone treatment.

I think there is a lot of scare mongering going on with headlines like this, they almost make it sound like in twenty years time everyone will be getting their bits chopped off and Frank won't know if Rachel used to be Richard and what the hell is Robin!

Such views in my mind are dated.

Anyway thats my take on it!
