Tomorrow, our lives will change forever. Well, perhaps not too drastically, but tomorrow is the season premier for Walking Dead....
So, you can listen to this while you read the rest of this post....
Tonight they had a pretty good summary of all seasons so far, and as I thought, it has always been a statement about society and social structure.
Someday it will all fail, and there might not be zombies, but maybe there will.
I'm not much into TV, but I got hooked on this show. I could care less about the zombies, the blood and guts. I am far more interested in the
social statement. In a world where nothing is left, where every moral fiber has been decimated, mankind has to rebuild or just continue to exist in a
primal world of survival of the fittest. I think the Walking Dead series has done a fantastic job illustrating this long and painful transition.
The zombies are just a metaphor...a metaphor for society, and the wreckage which will be left behind in a broken world. Is the "community", the
"village" the right way, or is complete and utter 'survivalist" the way? We've seen all flavors so far (and as long as no dragons show up, I'm
still interested). Kill, or be killed...trust, or trust no one. They've done a fantastic job of illustrating all the angles. No show, in the
history of television has ever charted the waters TWD has.
For the most part they have stayed true to the "comic", but sadly so few actually ever read it, let alone even heard of it.
In all honesty, we live in a dark and dangerous time. The realities of the situations of TWD really aren't that far out of the realm of
possibilities, as much as we try to hide this from our families and children. Sure, there probably won't be zombies...but then again...who knows!
In any case...tomorrow, our lives will be different.
Shut off the social programs or food and water to the cities for a week and you'll see TWD live in a city near you!
The vast majority of people are woefully unprepared for a societal hiccup, much less a collapse. They will wander, searching for sustenance. Some will
attempt to take from others by force.
It's a more apt social commentary than most think, especially in the U.S.
...and some wonder why me and mine live a rural lifestyle...
P.S.: I've read the comics through Compendium Three, so I have an idea what's coming...
Far less than people know. We hear stories of "deep state" and "false flag", but even the notion that these things could exist is proof of how
fragile society truly is...and just one event which caused a major disruption would raise havoc beyond what most could comprehend.
Man, I was just not impressed with the last season, some wannabe LARPing king with a cgi tiger, weird garbage people who's language some how
deteriorated to idiocy, and negan's constant talk of "balls" and "what a BADASS" lines.
I dunno, just got too wacky for me. I'll give the new season a couple episodes, but I might be done
ETA: before anyone jumps on me, I've never read the comics, so my judgements coming purely from the show.

because: (no reason given)
I agree that the whole tiger thing was a bit far fetched, but it did serve a purpose. It helped get viewers out of the 'Rick vs. the World' mindset.
Same with the garbage people. We now know there's a larger world out there, and different communities evolving out of nothing in different ways.
Again, I think to truly enjoy the program you have to look at it from a sociological / societal perspective.
Yeah I feel you. I would hope people would be a little smarter than some of the character though.
I think it was the season with the prison when they were out target practicing, on like bottles or something! Like, why waste bullets like that? ! Go
target practice on walkers!
Sometimes with that show man . . .
But I can't sit here and claim i would be some crazy badass. In reality, i know some spots in CA that would be literally impenetrable. One road in
kinda places where I would probably take the family.
I'm confident enough in my skills at hunting and foraging tht I think we could have a nice little life.
But the bigges concern is our daughter who is type 1 diabetic. Her blood checker takes batteries and special test strips. Don't think they make the
old paper blotter tests anymore. And what about insulin? It can be controlled through diet, but it would be rough.
The thought keeps me up at night. Especially with tensions in the u.s. right now. If shtf it would be really hard to keep her healthy.
