He said something in error.

Not sure where it is in the Constitution, but I think we're allowed to drag him out of the White House, beat him with socks filled with bars of soap and put Hillary in his place.

You go first but save me a spot in line, I'll be there in a bit.

I have to get a hair cut first.

Yeah, but in some corners ppl were wondering if he knew Puerto Rico was really U.S territory, with gaffes like the above seem to confirm their suspicions.

I genuinely would not be very surprised if he couldn't find North America on an unmarked map. I'm not saying that to rile Trump fans either. He strikes me as someone who really wouldn't care to know much in the way of general knowledge. He's focused on whatever relates to him and his business.

You have a more positive view on people than I do.

I think there would be a large percentage that are complete idiots.

How many people from where?

I only ask, because it seems to me that there have been plenty of viral videos which explicitly show how unable some sections of the American population are, when it comes to geography. Put another way, I am certain that locating North America on a map without assistance would pose problems only for those with learning disabilities in the UK, and most countries in Europe.

I am also pretty certain that there are people in the United States, who have no confirmed or indeed existing disability of the mind, but would none the less be unable to locate much of anything accurately, using a map without electronic assistance.

Does anyone know what the leader of the Virgin Islands is called without hitting google? I think Trump gets a pass on this one. An honest mistake that anyone could make.

But wasn't he introduced to the Governor as "Governor Mapp?" Trump's memory seems to be going.

I agree.

Americans are dumber (generally speaking) than our European counterparts.

Not dumber; less well educated.

Believe it or not, I've met English people who didn't know the difference between sheep and horses. Some folk are not designed for general knowledge.

America has a higher profile for stupid people, but I reckon % of pop will be very similar in other countries.

Oh yes, no doubt there although we might also forget such details given his type of schedule. He'll be meeting dozens of people a day and they could blur into one after a point.

I don't necessarily think that this is an indicator of a lack of raw intelligence.

Its more a lack of general knowledge, I think. You can be as smart as a freshly pressed, perfectly pinstriped suit, but if you lack general knowledge to apply that intelligence to, things like finding your nation on a map, leave alone any other nation, is going to be tricky!

This is a fair question in this modern age.

Used to be that if one lacked knowledge, one had to make an appointment with oneself, to take off to the library and read for some hours. Nowadays, one simply asks the internet, and out pops an answer.

I think the advent of the internet has made the human animal dumber.

We have more access to knowledge, but we lack the wisdom that is usually obtained in the search for knowledge.

Some interesting replies. In regards to Trump's geographical knowledge, I think it's safe to say that he's travelled the world more than any of us on this site. In his own plane!

To say he's ignorant of geography is in it's self, ignorant. Trump dropped a bollock, what's new?

Alone, this mistake would be of no consequence.

Understood as part of a literal constellation of lapses, mistakes, malapropisms, errors and so forth, it reveals a disturbing trend in Mr. Trump’s mental capacity.

He’s either in mid-stage Alzheimer’s or he’s the greatest actor, bar none, the world has ever known ... and he’s trying to convince us he’s in mid-stage Alzheimer’s.

It’s time for us to start calling for a medical and psychological evaluation of the President. For his sake, his family’s and all of ours.
