Roger Goodell sided with the protesting players, 3 weeks ago.
ATS Thread: www.abovetopsecret.com...

But now, public opinion, loss of dollars, and hopefully his own conscience, have forced him to enforce the NFL operations manual.

President Trump said Wednesday it’s “about time” after NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell sent a letter to teams calling on players to "honor our flag" and stand for the national anthem.

“It is about time that Roger Goodell of the NFL is finally demanding that all players STAND for our great National Anthem – RESPECT OUR COUNTRY,” Trump tweeted early Wednesday.

“We live in a country that can feel very divided. Sports, and especially the NFL, brings people together and lets them set aside those divisions, at least for a few hours,” Goodell wrote. “The current dispute over the National Anthem is threatening to erode the unifying power of our game, and is now dividing us, and our players, from many fans across the country.”

MUCH MORE at: www.foxnews.com...

With this decision by Goodell, the USA and the people of this great country, are the WINNERS.

I wonder what will happen to players who don't abide by the commissioner's request, or stand, but hold up their fist, or middle-finger to the Flag?

Pretty sure there will be a strike now. You can't have a season without players.

WINNING!

Just because you don't like someone elses words or stance/beliefs doesn't mean you should disrespect something that you have never had a problem with in the past.

GOOD POINT. The players union went ballistic, when Dallas Cowboys owner, Jerry Jones, told players this week that they will stand for the anthem, or not play in the game.

Only a few players even kneeled Before Trump. Because they did not give a Shi about the cause you think now they will strike over a cause they never even cared about?

LMAO

Sure they can. Pick any other country to play and protest in.

So much for protesting against the injustices of society. Poor black people. They are the most persecuted, but I wonder how will they show support now they can no longer disrespect the anthem? Maybe staying in the locker room would be a good start.

Pretty much what I said in another thread. The power is in the players' hands. They showed solidarity when Trump begged the NFL to take action. Hopefully they'll continue to show solidarity now that action is actually being taken. Is Dallas going to forfeit a game because all of their players kneeled? Is the NFL going to fine/suspend the entire league? The NFL's pocketbook is going to take a bigger hit if the players start refusing to play than if they just let them protest in peace.

I hope they do strike!

Let us regular folk play the game, it'd be way more entertaining.

A strike won't last long. Once the checks stop, too many of the players will have a hard time with child support payments to their baby mamas. They will quickly be back on the field.

You have to remember that most of the players are not making tens of millions per year. Far too many live well beyond their means in light of the short life of a NFL player. All that being "woke" won't last long once the checks stop and the mortgage is due, the payments on the Phantom, the baby mama wants her check, etc.

The players will quickly learn playing in the NFL is a business and messing up the cash flow over some stupid sh*t is not worth it.

Of course he does.

Because the almighty dollar has spoken. It’s not about respecting anything.

It’s entirely about the a) the image of the league b) the money of the league and c) the effect A has on B. Not trump. Not the flag. Not respect.

Money.

Nothing in that source saying he is forcing anyone to stand. He is making a plea to do so. He doesn't have the mandate to do such. Maybe next week but not now:

Goodell and NFL team owners will meet in New York City next week for their annual fall meeting, where the protests will apparently be discussed.

The owners are the "say" in the NFL, not the commissioner.

There should be no siding with Trump. He honestly shouldn't even be relevant to what's going on, because the moment he gets involved it becomes a First Amendment issue where as without government involvement it's just an internal contract dispute.

Anyways, the whole issue is frivolous, we still have Puerto Ricans starving, without power, without water, and without shelter... but they got some "very beautiful, very nice" paper towels (an entire 12 rolls worth).

That said, lets flip it around for a moment as to how far a contract goes. Can an employer legally make an employee take a protest stand? If Goodell said all players needed to kneel, would that be ok? If not, then how is it possibly ok to say all players need to stand? If you think it is ok, then does that mean employees are obligated to push their employers political views at all times, even when it's not outlined in their contract/job description?

This is probably far from over.
If the players do refuse to play, any caving by the league will mean that the players are in control. That can't sit well with the owners and the league.

How about they spend some of their millions to make infomercials to inform people about police abuse????

It's not about the original cause, I bet you don't even know what the original cause was. What it's about now is about one thing and one thing only: The government stepping in and trying to dictate how a private business is run.
