I was watching YouTube videos on the standard Internet of other people surfing the Dark Web and I watched some informational videos on YouTube about the Dark Web. I never stepped foot there.

Ive been there and browsed

The problem is none of the Dark Web search engines really work, most pages are old and outdated/unused

The Hidden Wiki is the only way I know how to find anything. That being said, im sure 70% of stuff linked from the hidden wiki is fake.

If anyone knows how to find and browse through Darknet sites not using hidden wiki let me know. Because it seems impossible to find anything unless someone lets you know about it and gives you a link.

pretty much all this.
scoped it out a few times. read some crazy #. saw some crazy # for sale. not sure how much of it was real.
read a bunch of blogs and such. again i seriously doubt much of it was legit.

i dont know why people are so scared of it

Same reason to be scared of the reg'lar internet. Sometimes you see stuff you didn't want to see and you can't unsee it.

The "Dark" Web isn't dark at all. I've been on there a few times, and you'll only really find what you set out to look for. There's a small percentage of it that's actually about all the stuff in op, and it's really no worse than the regular internet. You can find some pretty crazy things regarding classified government info, though. So it's not really surprising someone's put the stigma on it that it has.

It can be a horrifying place, but so can many parts of the city I live in.

There is however useful information that may be problematic if posted on the web everybody can see. I'm no pervert or criminal but I have some interests it can be expedient to view in less than public view. Think of it as the difference between having your house lights on and the blinds open, or simply shuttering the blinds.

And dont. I go all the way back to when it was called the "underweb" or "undernet" . It was bad then and even worse now...
I visited again about 7 years ago just for old times sake. I will never go back.
If you are wise , you will heed an old geek and ex white-hat

The Dark Web isn't that scary. You just have to be sensible and take precautions to protect your identity while using it. You know, the same kind of precautions that you should take when surfing clear web sites like our beloved ATS. It's also worth noting that there are many legal sites, forums and message boards on the Dark Web. TOR is also used in many countries to bypass censorship and many other good things that people depend on so that their Governments don't kill them.

As a general rule, you will only be in in as much danger as you put yourself in on the Dark Web. I've been an explorer and user of the Dark Web for over a decade and I have never had a single issue as a result...though now that I've said it out loud, I'm sure I will have!!!

Here's a link that tells you about the type of people who use TOR:

LINKY

Rev

Oh and for the record, I'm using TOR right now to chat with some friends.

There's plenty of degenerates and depraved content on clearnet also. Your personal information isn't magically safer, millions of people have their information stolen that have been on dn about as much as you have. Same goes for seeing and reading vile content/media.

It's only scary if you are a creep looking for the strange stuff...other than that it's a browser..I've used it for wikileaks.

I can only imagine it's a very dark and evil place... similar to the 'hell' we hear and read about if you end up there..

Come to think of it, if you look out your window it's a pretty dark world right now

I have been watching YouTube videos on the Dark Web, which you need a Tor browser to access. It sounds like a scary place - for one thing, you will need to protect yourself if you venture there, or your computer could easily get hacked and your personal information could get stolen. I do not go on the Dark Web myself, but I have been watching videos about it.

To start with, there are easy-to-find websites offering guns, drugs, hit men, human trafficking, stolen credit card information, stolen PayPal accounts, hackers-for-hire, and more. There are also a lot of pages dealing with conspiracies, some of them going deeper than what is on ATS. In fact, there is supposedly a deeper layer to the Dark Web that holds access to extremely secret information from sources like the government and the Vatican.

What is disturbing is the type of content you find on the Dark Web - there are streaming video and audio services, of course, but in addition to that, there are people out there who post snuff films - there is clear evidence to suggest that there are really people getting murdered out there on camera just so that someone can post it on the Dark Web. One user runs a website that has detailed information on how to cook women, and there are groups of cannibals that get together to eat each other.

In addition to this, there are at times hard-to-access live streams where someone can sit in a chat room and watch, in real-time, as a man tortures and murders his victims. The people in chat can suggest what the perpetrator should do next, or in some cases, who he should kill next. There is some seriously dark stuff happening out there.

As always, be careful, as the people you bump into on the Dark Web could gather personal information about you and use it to blackmail you or track you down. One user had a "friend" he had known for a long time from the Dark Web suddenly turn on him and private message him personal information about himself, including the user's family members, the name of his teacher, his Facebook, his address, his phone number, and more. The scary thing is that the two had not shared any personal information between each other.

In another instance, one user found a website that allowed him to covertly access the webcams and microphones of random internet users. He did this for a while, until he found his own webcam being offered on the site. He quickly logged off, only to get a Skype call later in the night from an unknown number who said he was "looking good."

I am continuing to watch YouTube videos about this subject, but so far, I am very convinced that this is a legitimately shady place to go. I hear that law enforcement doesn't do that much about the Dark Web. Some of the most troubling things to be found on the Dark Web, in my opinion, involve abusing people - making snuff films, child porn, live streams of torture and murder, human trafficking and the like.

What do you think? Is the Dark Web out of control? Should law enforcement do more about it? Or is it a necessary evil in our society? Has anyone been there before? Definitely don't share links to places you have been, or post any media or links to media that violates the Terms of Service.

On my own travels in the darkweb I found the Church of Euthanasia which advocates killing and eating people. I found detailed instructions on how to butcher and preserve people along with a bbq sauce recipe to go with eating people. The bbq sauce looked tasty but knowing what it was for I couldn't bring myself to make it.

Then I found a website supposedly created by doctors and medical researchers from hospitals around the US that posted research they supposedly conducted on homeless people and others kidnapped from hospitals. I don't remember most of it but they were pretty horrific. The one that stuck with me was a graph showing how long it took a pregnant woman to lose her baby while submerged in ice water...then how long it took her to die. I haven't been back on the dark web since.

I went on there ones, with Tor of course, and found Silk Road Whatever Version It Is Now and I then unfortunately clicked on a link that led to a website dedicated to pictures of men spanking little kid's bums, presumably their own children. Needless to say, I never went on there again. I watch gore and all of that stuff, but that disturbed me so much more and of course it should.

The dark web can be good in that if your ISP has decided to seriously muck everything up you might be able to get a message out etc.

I'd imagine now 90% of whats out there is police looking for easy scores.

"Red rooms" are almost certainly mythical and part of the "OMGWTFBBQ DAAAAAAARK WEEEEEEEEBBBBBBBBBBB!" panic, similar to one that also resulted in Dungeons & Dragons being identified as satanic propaganda.

The closest you'll actually find is those sick kids who livestreamed themselves beating up that disabled kid. No dark web involved, just facebook/youtube (I forget which one they used).

You don't need the dark web to get lists of devices online. The website shodan.io lists all the devices accessible on the Internet and lets you search for them by domain name or device type.

You sir, are the man.
Thank you for giving us some personal experience with the "deepweb / darkweb". I, like everyone else, have been to nervous about diving into the un-indexed parts of the web because of youtube vids like the OP was referring to. Magnivea, would you consider in creating a thread of a conspiracy that you can find more credible evidence in the deepweb than the surface? Maybe something we have all heard about for years that better evidence could be brought out through the deepweb?

Just a thought, PS Aliens would be a good start.
