most probably when a child starts nursery...then onto middle and upper schools...

as for me I was a rebel at school.....I have memories of when actual brainwashing took place....by my parents and teachers....

That's indoctrination.

Brainwashing (although it is a much juicier term), is a more short term affect, and would more apply to the systematic unraveling of pre-existing indoctrination to embed a new doctrine.

So in Nazi Germany, the adults the Party were targeting with their new doctrine well that was all brainwashing games, but all those Hitler's Youth now that was bonafide indoctrination.

The separation between the terms is mostly about timelines (before or after, which was first) and the duration (ones whole life versus all in one year or similar time frame).

Yes it is indoctrination and it does start with school. I was a rebel too, I rebelled against the system. But it didn't get me anywhere. I'm still rebelling against a system gone wrong today. No one wants to listen though. So at times I'm very outspoken, then people just avoid what I'm saying like I have the plague or something. So I just stay quiet and let things happen and when they do I just shrug my shoulders and say meh!

Brain washing is rather like the term re-programming, in that it requires a pre-existing series of programs to be present, before being superseded by the new program. In the event that a device currently contains no program, and is ready to be programmed, one merely calls it programming.

In this case, programming is indoctrination.

In the case of humans, both are abysmal, and not recommended, either being programmed in the first place, or reprogrammed after. Both are negative, and to be avoided at all costs, for the human being. Learning for oneself, for ones own reasons, in the peace and freedom necessary to make the best fist of ones thinking time, is a far better outcome for a young person, than being told any damned thing in particular.

As far as brainwashing goes, I think it is done through the media. Eg TV, movies, games, music and social media. Which is also a form of propaganda. People are brainwashed into believing their government is right. Brainwashed into getting themselves and their kids immunized, into working some mundane job, getting insurance on everything, buying certain products, believing in a religion, believing all drugs are bad etc. I have experienced all of those through the media and social media and I reject it all.

Genetically we are already coded with certain behaviours and responses. The socialisation process begins the day we come out of or mother's womb. If we believe those who tell us classical music is sensed by developing babies then even earlier. I react to motorbike engines like they are lullabies. Seriously, my Mum used to ride on the back of my Dad' motorbike when she was pregnant with me. Deep in my unconscious is the sound of the Triumph, lol.

We have socialisation but that is not brainwashing. it is learning the ropes of the society we are born into and have to live and function in.

Brainwashing is largely fantasy. I don't think you can brainwash a person unless they give their consent. The adverts and the media are not brainwashing. They tempt and use psychological tricks. It is very easy to develop immunity to outside assaults on our psyches for whatever manipulative purpose the invader might be motivated towards.

Yes,

1. Gun rights MUST be preserved
2. Democrats are responsible for everything that is bad in this country
3. Welfare is bad
4. FDR did not help us get out of the depression
5. Ayn Rand is a good person
6. Voter fraud is real.
7. Immigrants are why everything sucks in your life
8. Unions are bad
9. There's just nothing we can do about it
10. We are fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them over here

The media. Adverts. Television. Movies.

Motifs, logos, social media peer pressure, repetition of emotive language...

We are surrounded.

Our psychological schemas/frameworks are a product of brainwashing.

You too are brainwashed, in some way or another. We all are. We lost our way 2000 years ago.

I believe more so it's subtle, repeated and complete "indoctrination by suggested repetion of a point as fact"...

Nuns and priests I had for teachers for grades 1-8...they had a "habit" (wow.. I didn't intend that pun!).... of "making" you believe or think in certain way...
