Linking the shooting to Area 51 looks like a classic "UFO smear" gambit, that effectively shuts down an entire debate by discrediting all non-orthodox stances by associating them with flying saucer fanatics.
All the other stuff, the multiple homes, deliberately-confused identities, the money, was just weird. This new dimension is actively suspicious.
