No this is not a “snitches get stitches” thread...

It’s actually to do with UFOs...

Lately I’ve been binging on UFO shows, you know, the usual.

& something hit me...
Why do people who witness UFOs waste police time by ringing the emergency services numbers?

Are they idiots?

I mean... what do they expect the police to do?

What is the thought process...
Oh I’ve just seen a UFO/Light in the sky, I must ring the police immediately.

We’ve got loads of people on these boards who have witnessed UFOs...
I bet not one of you decided it was be prudent to ring emergency services...

Because that’s common sense? Right?

Silly rant I know, but it was bugging me.

The standard procedure is...well, anyway, it should be, for when someone rings the police, the police have a government number to call and, right away, a government personage appears to take their data and then instructs them that they didn't see what they saw and should not talk about it.

I think people just get excited and don't know who else to call. I doubt many people have a UFO investigator or the FBI on speed-dial.

But, if you call the cops, then you will have proof that they think you are nuts. Call a friend and have them look up, by the time they get outside it will be gone and they will call you nuts. Take a picture and people will say "
good cgi"

Or just keep it to yourself and consider yourself as priviledged for seeing one. I have never seen one, but that does not mean they do not exist, only that I have not seen one.

Call them, never know what may get witnessed.😉

I used to go down to a friends business in the evening and the cops came there every night. Food and donuts and coffee were discussed regularly. They came there to give us scoop and to drink a cup of coffee. Best way to get scoop of what was happening in town, they sometimes were not allowed to give names, but they gave good hints about who was getting in trouble. .

To ask if their refrigerator is running, obviously.

Dry -snitchin'-azzz-ufo-narcs!!!! LOL. Seriously, they call because they want to file an official report.Maybe they hope the 911 operator will tell them, "Yeah,we've had other calls about it.You're NOT seeing things!"If I saw one,I'd tell my family.I don't think I'd call the fuzz.

Documentation, maybe? Police can check Airports and such to see if the radars pick up on anything in the area.
And if enough people call it in, it's sort of a validation that something weird was there.

(Shoot. I don't know.)

We are talking about a day and age where people will call the cops if McD's gets the number of chicken nuggets in their order wrong.

Why wouldn't they call the cops?

The same thing they always do. Show up and shoot your dog.

Then shoot you.

And finally sprinkle crack on both of you.

(I learned this from Shammy)

I don't know if it is still there, but there used to be a section in the disaster control handbook on what to do in the face of a meeting with extra terrestrials or with a UFO.

Calling the police is what people do in cases of emergency. The original thinking must have been "UFO = potential alien invasion".
Nowadays, it is probably because calling the police has got engrained into the public mind as "the thing to do when you see a UFO". It happens because people are reacting, not thinking.
You might as well ask why people in films always shout "No!" when threatened by inorganic dangers like a tidal wave or a volcano (which is not going to hear their appeal and change its mind).
