Exactly. The Strip is pretty much an artificial canyon. Sound is going to do some pretty funny things in there. My guess is that those people who think they're hearing multiple shooters are just hearing an echo. This also explains why there were so many reports of shots fired at other casinos.

I agree.

I have heard ongoing (single shooter) automatic gunfire in a major city; the sound echoes off every building and can sound as if there are multiple firings from multiple places.

That's not to say there can't be multiples, but the above can certainly cause confusion in the moment of chaos.

Accepted, and just to be clear, I'm not saying there's definitely no second shooter. Just, at this point, none of the information we have points to that. So far all the info leads to one shooter.

We're on the same page.

I'm also referring to the beginning of the thread, people simply hearing the audio and saying "more than one shooter!" which could confuse based upon what I previously commented about echoes.

I don't want to step on America toes in the whole gun discussion - but events like today look like absolute insanity from the outside looking in. Why on earth is a citizen holed up in a hotel with 10 legally held guns? It's nuts.

Of course, you can counter this with talk of knives and terrorist bombs - but there's only one reason that 58 people are dead and 515 others are injured.

I'm sorry, you guys really need to have a think about this. It's notable that this only really happens with any regularity in one country.

My condolences to those affected.

Please post the source that shows these were legally held guns.

Just something I heard on the radio. UK here.

I suspect it'll transpire that this claim is accurate though. He may have well reetooled a semi to go auto though.

They may well be legal. Though it is very difficult to get a fully auto gun legally if that is indeed what weapon was used.

But I have not only seen no sources discuss the legality of the weapons or what they were, but I saw the sheriff's conference where they said they hadn't released those details yet.

So I think your radio source is jumping the gun

This thread is moving so fast, I can't keep up.

It's been mentioned a couple of times, and there is a LOT of video already out, but from what I've seen so far, there are LOTS of regular folks doing some absolutely HEROIC stuff, carrying folks out on makeshift stretchers, helping the wounded get clear, loading wounded folks into regular cars and trucks to transport them to the hospital.

Just regular folks trying to help OTHER regular folks. Maybe it's just me, but from what I've seen so far, I'm just massively impressed by all the folks doing whatever they can to help. Vegas, you guys frakking ROCK!

I'm just blown away. I don't even know what else to say, except you folks look like HEROES to me.

Wow. My hat's off to you all.

If it's not a Muslim then just go with an anti-Trumper, they're basically the same thing anyways, right? Win win.

Oh do you have a problem with facts?

I've seen some reports he had the cameras set up to monitor the hallway so he would know when the police were about to break in.

Do you have a source on that? I haven't seen that, but there are so many news outlets nowadays, it's hard to keep up.

How long did this go on for? The number of casualties and injuries is astounding for one shooter, I know there were a ton of people down there but he would've had to had drum-mags or multiple guns set up and ready and probably 15 minutes or more of shooting time to accomplish this.

Given the mass of people down there where he didn't even really need to aim that accurately to hit anyone, the type of guns it sounds like he had, the planning, it's very easily accomplished by one shooter. 10 or 15 minutes goes by really fast in a situation like this. 10 minutes more than enough time to get off that many rounds.

Absolutely. We can try to piece together a picture that may have lead him to do what he did. Or, if the evidence shows otherwise, why what happened happened.

But too often we see people, even on ATS, that for one reason or another (generally it's fear) that can't accept that there are bad people in the world, and that there are crazy people in the world, and sometimes those folks go and do bad and/or crazy things. Saying "it doesn't make sense that he'd go out this way" is a poor lens to look at events through, because the overwhelming majority of people in the world can't imagine being in a position where murdering dozens of people sounds like a good idea. So of course "it doesn't make sense" that somebody would be willing to do that.

And it shouldn't make sense to most of us.

Alex Jones just said he got a text from his FBI Hostage Rescue team source that said the HRT took the shooter out after he fired upon them, and there was Antifa stuff all over the room.
No way to confirm that obviously.

That would contradict the official statements that he took his own life, prior to LE entry.

What video were you watching? There are two guns firing at the same time at several points.

that's called echo. it's been noted that people said they couldn't tell where the shots were coming from because of the echo

^

This is why I say "wait for further confirmation."

This claim is all over my FB, the claims of this being an IS soldier is all over, the claims of this being a "false flag," are all over the place.

We simply just don't know, yet.

Not easy to do.....

Is illegal to own a auto weapon produced after 1986

Possession of one requires ATF Class III license- extensive background check, registration of weapon, payment of tax on each weapon . Requires permission of local authority and secure storage facility for weapons

Even possession of certain parts, auto sear, AR15/M16 lower receiver, etc is a criminal offense - good for 5 years in slammer

To convert a semi to full auto requires fair degree of knowledge, proper tools and skill at machining

I've been slowly reading this thread since I woke up five hours back, finally got to the end.

I've seen claims anywhere from 50 to 200 dead, and 100 to 400 injured. I'll have to run off and find my own source for an official count, I guess.

What is bothering me most is that I got some 50 pages in before anyone brought up that this is happening while legislation is going through that would open up gun control just a little bit. On its own that doesn't mean much, but the woman screaming "They're all around you" sort of implies that the guy who was doing the shooting may have been under the impression that there were at least two more people in different buildings planning to do the same.
He may have been under the impression help would show up at his room, to use the second vantage point.

I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if this was a false flag, set up by rouge elements within our own government.
There is a motive, and a patsy, and the facts are not adding up.

What did I see about someone hooking into the PA system to play the sounds of rifle fire? If that happened, there's no way this guy did it.

I'm just not buying the lone gunman story. This was well funded, planned, and executed- and I would wager that there were others involved and he was under the impression that they were working together- not to set him up as the fall guy. The "they're all around you" lady probably has more information, but I'll also wager her body will turn up in the next 48 hours and nobody will even bat an eye.

From what I'm reading, this was just another average guy who happened to have a little experience, and maybe a chip on his shoulder. Who doesn't?

It just isn't adding up for me. It doesn't make sense without powerful influence.

The FBI still needs to do forensics on his computer/phones before they can state for certain in he was connected to ISIS, ANTIFA...anything...or nothing.
