I think Trump's goal is simply for North Korea to understand that dropping the posturing and engaging in diplomacy is their best option, because he's not #ing kidding about the military option.

There was also a report on Fox that this "line of communication" he spoke of between the US and NK is primarily to do with the status of the 3 Americans being held by NK. They aren't negotiating the nuclear situation through that channel.

Correction: Secretary of State Tillerson denied that he was considering resigning. He sidestepped the issue of calling Trump a "moron." When asked about Tillerson, Trump said that he had "his confidence," which he always says before firing someone. Tillerson cannot resign because he, Kelly, and Mattis are reputed to be the only things holding this administration together. If Trump asks for Tillerson's resignation, we will see the storm Trump was talking about.
