I'm currently at a crossroad in my life that's very out of my control. On the one hand I have a possible career within business management that hangs on the thread of an accepted or rejected work visa, and on the other hand I have a possible career in the military, which I've always wanted.

However, I've already applied for a military position, of which was rejected. At the time of application I had quite severe Allergies and Asthma, and certainly don't blame anyone for that rejected application.

10 years later, however, My asthma is entirely gone, and most of my allergies gone with it - minus all fish and some common tree nuts. Still, I fear that those will be enough to be rejected once again.

So I ended up doing a bit of research into reducing and even curing both Asthma and Allergies. Currently, the most tried and tested method for allergies is specific immunotherapy (SIT). Essentially the patient is given very diluted doses of whatever it is they're allergic to, and over many sessions (often taking years), the body either lessens the reaction to the allergen, or it recognizes it as a non-harmful substance and that allergy is cured.

It's not the safest method, but it has shown results.

However, there are two new methods and can actually cure it, quickly, and less dangerously.

Method 1:

Nanoparticle Acts Like Trojan Horse to Halt Asthma (link to article)

In an entirely new approach to treating asthma and allergies, a biodegradable nanoparticle acts like a Trojan horse, hiding an allergen in a friendly shell, to convince the immune system not to attack it, according to new Northwestern Medicine research. As a result, the allergic reaction in the airways is shut down long- term and an asthma attack prevented.

The technology can be applied to food allergies as well. The nanoparticle is currently being tested in a mouse model of peanut allergy, similar to food allergy in humans.

And Method 2:

Gene therapy could ‘turn off’ severe allergies (link to article)

A single treatment giving life-long protection from severe allergies such as asthma could be made possible by immunology research at The University of Queensland.

A team led by Associate Professor Ray Steptoe at the UQ Diamantina Institute has been able to ‘turn-off’ the immune response which causes allergic reaction in animals.

Either way, I'm incredibly excited. I've nearly died several times from all sorts of absurdly innocent things, and both asthma and allergies have been an incredible detriment to my life. Research like these gives me a lot of hope. But, being an ATS member, I do understand that such things could very well be buried from major pharma companies that have been profiting massively over the years from allergen medication. Nevertheless, It's good to know cures exist.

I've actually contacted one of the pharmaceutical companies that's funding one of these procedures to see how the technology is coming along. I'll keep you posted on their response

Sorry you've had to deal with severe allergies. I never had any allergies until about 20 years ago. I got bit by a patient at work and was required to have a tetanus shot. By the time I got to my truck, I couldn't breathe. I was in the hospital for 17 days. After that I developed allergies to most antibiotics and all sorts of stinging and biting bugs. I tried the immunotherapy shots. We had to stop because I kept having worsening reactions. All these years later, I still carry my epipen for stings and bites but I'm slowly getting to the point that I can take some antibiotics. I'm glad to hear that there is something else I could try in the future.

Ever hear of NAET therapy? It sounds insane/weird. But I've had several family members and friends swear by it. Don't know if it is something you've heard of. All natural. Only takes two visits to a specialist.

I have a niece who has an extreme food allergy to peanuts. Just the smell of peanuts could affect her breathing. So this would surely be great news for her.

I had allergies so bad when I was young, my teacher sent me to the nurse thinking I was high on drugs because my eyes were red from me rubbing them. I told the teacher it was allergies, but she wouldn't believe me, lol. In my late 20's I went through 3 years of immunotherapy. Never missed an appointment to get my allergy shots. The doctor said he wish he had more patients like me. Well, surprisingly it worked!! I'm allergy free. I had to go twice a week for shots. Now I think immunotherapy shots are much less. More like once a week or once a month. All I know it was definitely worth it for me. Just mowing the lawn would cause my eyes to water and itch and give me ridiculous sneezing fits!

Many allergies and Asthma are caused by deficient detox ability of sulfur compounds. Even pollen is a high sulfur chemistry. We need to boost the sulfur detox enzyme production, by slowly building up as you say, you can increase the enzymes production in some people.

If you got problems in the Moco or molybdenum pathways, a simple supplement will help or just boosting foods higher in molybdenum will help. If you got problems in the sulfur pathways themselves, you can ad some inhibitors of the enzymes that breakdown sulfur, or consume foods that inhibit the uptake of sulfur. Or reduce sulfur food intake. Also, with asthma it is good to avoid alum in pickles and cheeses and other products like aluminum containing baking powder. They can cause over stimulation of the immune system.

Many meds actually somehow alter these pathways one way or another, they do it in a way that is patentable so they can sell medicines. There are some Asthma's and allergies that do need meds, but working with this stuff can keep about half the people off of the meds. Even bee venom contains sulfur. www.researchgate.net... .Sulfa drugs also boost sulfites in the body by disrupting molybdopterins, sulfites can give you a headache.

Some people cannot boost the sulfur and molybdenum enzymes too much so that theory of fixing things by slowly introducing them doesn't always work, it may just cause a seemingly unrelated side effect some times that may be dangerous too.

It is good to talk to a medical professional before doing things yourself. I am not a medical professional, I just know a lot of junk...stuff that doesn't interest most people.

I've always wondered about this.

other products like aluminum containing baking powder.

Arm and Hammer claim there is no aluminum in their BS but I beg to differ. It's like say for example Johnson's and Johnson's claiming their baby powder doesnt cause cancer.

Sorry to derail thread op. Good info.

This is great news for me. I am allergic to dogs, cats and grass. I love cats and dogs, so I can't manage to stay away from them.

I am certainly interested, and hopeful, but also concerned. If the method basically turns off the immune response, could that not leave one susceptible to becoming ill in other ways? Such a thing would need to be very targeted. If it works, that would be amazing. Asthma is a real hassle, I know.

Hmmm...what about exercise-induced asthma, like mine? It doesn't seem that this would affect that very much.

Still, interesting approaches.

How do they get a rat to suddenly become allergic to peanuts???? It's astounding that they can make these animals allergic to certain things...makes me really wonder...

both my kids have peanut and one of them has peanut and dairy....believe me there are plenty of things out there for them to eat so it doesn't bother me...bothers me when it's a birthday party and pizza is served..always one or two kids who emphasize to him how good the pizza is...and most times the pizza is really good..

If it's not cancer research on the cusp of some major advances it something else but I'm looking to see the cure for either happen now...
