At the time, Rocker was the hottest closer in baseball. His comments weren't really bad,

Rocker was barely good for an inning, maybe a couple outs

Ah, so you understand the concept of a closer. Rocker holds the third highest WAR in Brave's relief pitcher history, behind two of the most dominant closers of the past 30 years, Smoltz and Kimbrel. As I said, his comments weren't bad outside of NYC. Because NYC is the media capital of the sports world, he was crucified.

I'm sorry, I'm not sure what a closer is? Thanks for the jab.

Yeah, I watched Rocker when he was with the Braves. He could barely close, but he was good when he could throw a strike. Like I said, barely an inning. A few good 100mph fast balls few could hit was about it, one or two outs, and then he started messing up. He wasn't solid, but that's a Braves curse it seems.

His comments offended quite a *few* people outside of NY.

Smoltz was solid.

Probably all that hot air he blew into it first.

The ball was probably underinflated. Unlike his sense of self worth

After reading this thread my head hurts.

Maybe it is my perspective as a veteran and middle american.... Wait no its not neither of those matter. Its my perspective as an American that Trump is wrong to say this at at campaign event for someone else no less. A president wishing that people lose jobs over their right to protest is asinine. Wonder how long till he goes the Nixon route and makes up something like the war on drugs to punish protesters.

One day, just for one day, maybe tomorrow, our national holy football day.

Every football player should, during the national anthem tomorrow, get on his knees.

And tell that ignorant bastard to go to Hell

This is America

Not Russia or Nazi Germany

People died so others have the right top protest

You take that away

America is dead

Not so much comparing, as I am saying that societal change, or the need for same, has often been pointed out by athletes.

Kaepernick is one guy, but he's not the only guy. Take his name out, and you're still left with men of good character who are using their athletic "fame"-for lack of a better word-to point out issues that they feel need addressing.

Who is taking that away?

The players have the right to kneel, trump and others have the right to take offense at that and call them out.

The fewer people paying attention to professional sports means more people paying attention to and caring about relevant things. Like one another for one...

What amazes me even more is that NFL players have a right to protest and express their true feelings, but when someone at Google does the same, well in the words of Trump " You're fired ." And nobody gave a rats ass about him. When CEO's were intimidating Trump voters during the elections, that was ok. But god forbid should Trump call out NFL players. Oh the hypocrisy.

And i am all for that.

I happen to feel that these players are inaccurate in their criticism, and in fact unarmed black people are less likely to be shot by police as studies have shown.

But certainly they have the right to do this.

Its funny though how none of the espns of the world that celebrate this free speech spoke up when MLB player Steve clevenger was fired last year for calling rioters blm and animals. Nope they felt no need to speak up for someone's free speech when it actually cost them a job.

No doubt many of the posters on here and elsewhere feel that free speech is universal and would have defended clevenger had they heard of that story.

But it's also worth pointing out how many of the people are hypocritical and said nothing of clevenger despite knowing of the situation.

As compared to unarmed white people? That's intriguing.

Yes I am on mobile so I can't link but the most comprehensive study on police shootings recently was done by a Harvard professor that found that unarmed white people are actually more likely to be shot by police than unarmed white people.
