Was looking through some old images and thought this one was interesting. The right-looking angle, the rustiness, the regularity. Doesn't look a lot like any of the other rocks around it. Rocks, probably, but still interesting:

Normally I don't like this kind of threads but that rock really looks like it's part of something.

Am I the only one seeing a guy in a shawl peeping round that rock in the top right corner???
I know its not but I cant usually see what it is that I'm supposed to see.
Those lines in the centre look like pipes.

Finally a new Mars thread! It's been quite a while but it's still one of my favorite topics on here.

The geology around Gale crater is indeed strange and it would seem that rocks come in all sorts of crazy shapes and sizes, but some of them are really weird. Seen lots of exposed sedimentary layers, iron meteorites, ventifacts, metamorphic rocks with strange patterns... and still: would we even recognize something that's been left behind billions of years ago? Or something that once crawled across the Martian surface?

As you say, it's probably just a rock, but a strange one for sure!

It's a Mars rock, cause were told it's a Mars rock.

Ok, seems legit.

The parallel lines are intriguing.

At least it's fairly clear....and seems to be up close. Not a trick of light or distance or those combined.

Weird!

It looks like it is embedded in a skull or something!

Of course it could just signs of Driods! Or Toshi Station wrapping paper Luke tossed out the speeder on the way home!

Forget that rock...

What is Yoda doing peering around this rock?!!

I'm flabbergasted at this point...

With all these rocks on mars I'm curious, is there any examples of human made space junk that has made its way to the red planet?

Just curious, what kind of scale are we talking about here? Are those rocks the size of a car or the size of a mountain? It's hard to tell with the Rover's perspective, but they appear to be the size of pebbles.

It varies depending on the angle of the camera. The best way to get a rough estimate of the size is to look at the original images and see what it looks like in context.

Strata.

Much of Mars's surface was laid down in layers that have form parallel lines of strata, such as seen in this image:
