I'm certain there was a BBC childrens program that taught children how to make model rockets using a plastic bottle, two balloons, a pair of scissors, a knitting needle, some bicarbonate of soda and some lemons. Put the bicarbonate of soda in one balloon, put the lemon juice in another place both balloons in a plastic bottle. make a hole in both balloons with the knitting needle and step back. And remember children, if your rocket doesn't take off, then don't go near it for 15 minutes as you may be seriously injured.

AN is one of the most stable HEs. It, however requires a primary explaosive like AP in order to set it off. Detonators made from primaries can set off larger amounts of AN or you can make AN easier to set off by mixing it with aluminum powder, which is perfectly legal in most states and can then be set off with a high powered rifle.

C4 and other stable plastic explosives also require primary detonators to set them off.

They are also more difficult to synthesize considering AN IS a HE already and doesn't require synthesis.

RDX, the primary ingredient in C4, C1 etc is the high explosive and while it can be synthesized with somewhat readily available materials, it is much more complex and still requires a primary to set it off.

Primaries are typically not very stable at all and can be dangerous to synthesize. AP is very sensitive to temperature and pressure, MEKP is more stable but still shouldn't be made lightly or carelessly.

He's exaggerating a bit. A trip to lowes isn't all you would need. The primary ingredient in RDX is readily available, but you need almost pure nitric acid, which isn't. You can get a watered down version of nitric acid and distill it, but it's not as easy as dragonridr makes it out to be.

We used to launch rockets as children by building a fire, sticking an old piece of iron drainpipe into it and then depositing old aerosol canisters down the top........few minutes later and BANG! One homemade mortar. LoL

Different times and different strokes, christ i have seen weans in the park with a potato gun these days draw the attention of 3 meat wagons, armed police detachment and a helicopter overhead.
