Who says the average American is proud of all that ?

You know most people don't learn those things in school right ?

Didn't mean the "average American", necessarily. Just the sampling that we had on the first page of the thread, whom like to believe the propagandist lies that others hate America because of it's illusory freedoms.

Some hate America because it has been destroying freedom and democracy across the globe, for over 50 years.
Venezuela is just the latest victim.
Poppies in Afghanistan anyone?
Libya?

We do know they don't teach that in any schools.
But it's incomprehensible how long-term ATS members, continue to smugly ignore it, and make posts here to laugh at other peoples misery, when their own nation is a central factor in causing that misery.
Nothing but bullying.

Honestly: no other nations are better, because no one calls them on it, in any significant way.
We just cozy-up to the bully, praying for protection, and hoping we don't get smacked-around too often.
Seeing what happens to those that try to control their own destiny, is enough to discourage most from even trying.

But overall, the two economic models, socialism and capitalism, are not comparable.

I disagree... both are totally dependent on profits.

In a pure socialist economic system, there is no such thing as profits.

Profits are a motive of the individual, which can lead to corruption.

Subconsciously theyd have us expect its about socialism when its more about psychopathic control freak megalomania, these things.

Pretty soon we need to 'Democratize' them too, for Humanitarian Reasons, of course.

If there are no profits, then socialist states end up like Venezuela because there isn't enough money to distribute to the people.

Socailism stills always enda up with a "vanguard" ruling class. But it makes people feel warm and fuzzy inside. And totally stokes lazy people. Yippie!

Well, of course, the so-called smartest people who are the only ones enlightened enough to "share" out the stuff to everyone else always get better shares because that's their reward for being the best.

Venezuela does not have a socialist government or society.

Your headline is inaccurate. Surprise.

They seem to be more of a corrupt capitalist economy in which the powerful elite minority have had a stranglehold over the majority.

OMG, you almost understand!

That is "Real Life Socialism". A political high / special class and the rest of us peasants. Bringing an entire population down to the lowest common denominator so that they are all equally poor (except the political class of course).

That is Real Life Socialism proven time and time again.

www.aei.org...

The Idea of Socialism is like a Religious Cult..... It has always been done wrong and we can do it right next time... LOL

Don't expect that they have much interest in seeing an autonomous state, and not letting their big boys get their grubby mitts on a piece of the pie.

Biased much?

He never said for people to eat their pet rabbits, he said that maybe instead of buying a rabbit as a pet they should buy it for food.

No one is telling or forcing anyone to eat their pet rabbits, your sources and title try to imply that is the case. Stop spreading your propaganda.

While it is true that the government is supposedly a federal republic, the dominant party is socialist and put in place a constitution that guarantees such things as free education and healthcare for all... notable socialist cornerstones.

He's just going to keep repeating it while his fan club beats their chests and post "see? Stupid socialists. See what would have happened if Bernie was elected?!?"

And with that, I'm out. Don't care to look back on threads like this one where it is all about high fives and one or two people that are newer to the forum arguing when they don't know the posting history of those high-fiving.

You just reorganized my original post as though my words came from that link. Very dishonest of you. Are you a journalist by chance?

Does the working class own the means of production?
No? Then not socialist.

In fact public ownership in Venezuela is pretty darn close to France (~38%), which is a Social Democracy (just as another measure, the US is around 28%). Socialism is defined by public ownership. Venezuela isn't even close. Try harder at your socialist smear game.

That's called communism. Socialism does not exclude the existence of private businesses. You seem to believe that if private corporations exist and the people are poor then it must be because of the businesses and capitalism, which is completely absurd. Venezuela has been embracing socialist ideals for a long time and as already pointed out by other members, all their major parties are and have been for a long time, heavily influenced by socialist ideology.
