No way their "Socialists" !!

Political Parties

The "Ruling" Party

According to Wikipedia they're a Federal Republic.

The info can be found by simply clicking on Venezuela in your wiki link or following the links I've provided.

So no, not "socialist utopia".

Venezuela does not have a socialist government or society.

Your headline is inaccurate. Surprise.

They seem to be more of a corrupt capitalist economy in which the powerful elite minority have had a stranglehold over the majority.

OMG, you almost understand!

That is "Real Life Socialism". A political high / special class and the rest of us peasants. Bringing an entire population down to the lowest common denominator so that they are all equally poor (except the political class of course).

That is Real Life Socialism proven time and time again.

www.aei.org...

Socialism is the Big Lie of the twentieth century. While it promised prosperity, equality, and security, it delivered poverty, misery, and tyranny. Equality was achieved only in the sense that everyone was equal in his or her misery.

In the same way that a Ponzi scheme or chain letter initially succeeds but eventually collapses, socialism may show early signs of success. But any accomplishments quickly fade as the fundamental deficiencies of central planning emerge. It is the initial illusion of success that gives government intervention its pernicious, seductive appeal. In the long run, socialism has always proven to be a formula for tyranny and misery.

A pyramid scheme is ultimately unsustainable because it is based on faulty principles. Likewise, collectivism is unsustainable in the long run because it is a flawed theory. Socialism does not work because it is not consistent with fundamental principles of human behavior. The failure of socialism in countries around the world can be traced to one critical defect: it is a system that ignores incentives.

By their failure to foster, promote, and nurture the potential of their people through incentive-enhancing institutions, centrally planned economies deprive the human spirit of full development. Socialism fails because it kills and destroys the human spirit–just ask the people leaving Cuba in homemade rafts and boats [and those waiting in long lines today in Venezuela struggling, and often failing, to buy food].

The temptress of socialism is constantly luring us with the offer: “give up a little of your freedom and I will give you a little more security.” As the experience of this century has demonstrated, the bargain is tempting but never pays off. We end up losing both our freedom and our security.
Socialism will remain a constant temptation. We must be vigilant in our fight against socialism not only around the globe but also here in the United States.

The Idea of Socialism is like a Religious Cult..... It has always been done wrong and we can do it right next time... LOL

Does Venezuela have sanctions against them?

Seeing as no one wants to discuss this logically, preferring a, well the first word to come to mind is "circle", I Googled it and there are "new sanctions" against them this week. That means there are previous sanctions. So the US is punishing the people along with the government they don't approve of.

Sanctions never hurt those in power.

Sanctions hurt the people.

Sanctions are designed to incentivize the people to change their government.

Isn't that the blue print for communism? Not the doctrine, but the way it always turns out?

They should raise taxes. Isn't that the go-to solution for government?

I bet their universal healthcare is better than ours also!

Can't understand why 'Mericans are so proud about this.

Seems no one is willing to consider, even the slightest minuscule possibility, that there are powers in this world that don't like any flavor that even smells socialistic.

Any chance that Venezuela's problems started when they booted big-oil out of the country?
That's our friend's oil!

Also consider this:

Noam Chomsky calls William Blum's classic, Killing Hope: U.S. Military and CIA Interventions since World War II, "Far and away the best book on the topic." If you're looking for historical context for what you are reading or watching on TV about the coup in Ukraine, Killing Hope will provide it. The title has never been more apt as we watch the hopes of people from all regions of Ukraine being sacrificed on the same altar as those of people in Iran (1953); Guatemala(1954); Thailand (1957); Laos (1958-60); the Congo (1960); Turkey (1960, 1971 & 1980); Ecuador (1961 & 1963); South Vietnam (1963); Brazil (1964); the Dominican Republic (1963); Argentina (1963); Honduras (1963 & 2009); Iraq (1963 & 2003); Bolivia (1964, 1971 & 1980); Indonesia (1965); Ghana (1966); Greece (1967); Panama (1968 & 1989); Cambodia (1970); Chile (1973); Bangladesh (1975); Pakistan (1977); Grenada (1983); Mauritania (1984); Guinea (1984); Burkina Faso (1987); Paraguay (1989); Haiti (1991 & 2004); Russia (1993); Uganda (1996);and Libya (2011). This list does not include a roughly equal number of failed coups, nor coups in Africa and elsewhere in which a U.S. role is suspected but unproven.

Rabbits are delicious! Especially the ones that are farmed domestically versus the wild version. I think raising rabbits would be a good idea, however when people are already starving, who is going to sit there and watch a male and female rabbit mate, have babies and all the while have to feed them? Then you have to watch and make sure the momma rabbit don't kill her babies. I had one that killed her whole litter.

The only problem I see with Maduro's plan is, "How are people going to afford to feed them?".

Uh, grass?

It might be a "product of" a Socialist Failure.

That's exactly what it was. There's no sense in denying it.

They put all their eggs in one basket... oil.

That turned out to be a bad decision because our government wound up driving down the price of their lifeblood to bring Iran to the negotiating table. Obama and Kerry literally destroyed Venezuela.
