In a recent article from The Guardian, Helen Clark advocates for more power to the United Nations' secretary general, "to take bold initiatives and run the organisation as an effective leader and chief executive must". Notice how she refers to countries as "member states", which seems to be very common in journalism nowadays...
So basically, more power to the UN, so the countries lose their sovereignty even more and become more and more united under one leader... Surely sounds suspicious.

They also want to give more power to 3rd world countries, less to Europe...
"That should be coupled with a move to fairer representation on the security council. It is, in effect, the executive board for the UN on peace and security matters on which Europe is clearly over-represented and other regions are correspondingly under-represented. This is a long-term source of grievance, and it undermines the UN’s legitimacy." That must be a great idea, in terms of human rights and such...

What do you think?

That's a great idea. Akin to one where Saudi is presiding over the commission for human rights or something like that.

Let's give more power to savages...I dont see what can go wrong.

I'm sure part of that plan includes those 3rd world countries paying more of the UN's budget though.

The United Nations was started to help the world not control the world. Or was it?

I believe we'll see much more articles like this one in the future, people will start talking about it, and with time the UN will have the control it wants, unfortunately.

Originally the uN was supposed to be a nations forum where every nation had a vote, for or against any action taken uniulaterally against any other nation.

But right away the UN Security Council of superpwoers was formed, giving then the power over the general assembly to decide these issues.

So tilt and tilt, nowadays its used as a political arena, especially by the United states to impose its will on other nations thru resolutions that allow sanctions (siege measures), Humanitarian corridors and Interventions (invasions) ultimately leading to Regime Change (Coups) that destroy gubments, their leaders and infrastructure, in the name of Humanity.

Something the UN was designed to prevent: superpowers picking on hapless nations under false pretenses for monetary gain, power and control.

The security council sets itself above the rest of the General assembly, ne nation one vote has been supplanted by the most powerful nations only, vote.

That was the first corruption. The next was basing in New York instead of a more neutral venue. Might as well do away with it now, there is no fairness.

Look at how Israelis Oppress Palestinians, How the US abuse umpteen nations by waging aggressive war, how the Saudis do the same to Yemen?

Many nations have territorial (colonial) status, are embargoed blockaded and sanctioned by the worlds Banksters, and nobody can do a thing about it because the UN is not one nation, one vote.

The US does pay a full 22% of the UN budget, I would say that gives them a little clout. China is at 8% and Russia at about 3%.

I think that the UN should be disbanded, and if not, at the very least it should be moved off of U.S. soil and let the burden of funding the majority of it fall on another country.

Why we fund so heavily (and created, but that's another issue) an organization that generally tries to demonize and argue against the U.S. will always be an enigma to me.

The Nazis had "clout" too. Thats why the uN was formed, to prevent what happened to europe during WWII from ever happening again.

Here we are.

Your'e kidding right? So that the main stream news can replay what Susan Rice, Samamantha Powers and Nikki Haley spew about evil dictators, WMD, Intervention, Regime Change, over and over again.

Your memory must be slipping...

Remember Powell's little yellow vial speech?
