Can't believe I'm getting so much slack.

Can't please em' all!

ETA: in case you missed it in the opening paragraph.

These are by no means the best films, just my favorites for many different reasons.

Limiting myself to only 5 Movies was very difficult. I left out so many great films. There are soo many great films, especially from the 80-00.

I spent a lot of time deliberating.. found it easiest to just follow my heart and go with personal preference.

So much tripe for a thread that says "top movies", for those who haven't explored the wonderful world cinema, and judging by your lists I know that's true, unbelievably not mentioned:

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (1920)
www.imdb.com...

The Phantom Carriage (1921)
www.imdb.com...

Nosferatu (1922)
www.imdb.com...

The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948)
www.imdb.com...

The Wages of Fear (1953)
www.imdb.com...

Kwaidan (1964)
www.imdb.com...

Harakiri (1962)
www.imdb.com...

The Battle of Algiers (1966)
www.imdb.com...

Army of Shadows (1969)
www.imdb.com...

The Confession (1970)
www.imdb.com...

Barefoot Gen (1983)
www.imdb.com...

Akira (1988)
www.imdb.com...

Grave of the Fireflies (1988)
www.imdb.com...

I was thinking the same thing. All I could picture in my head was Clint Eastwood telling Eli Wallach"the way back to town is only 70 mile's,if you save your breath I feel a man like you could manage it".

The Lovely Bones
Red Dawn
Ginger Snaps
Silver Bullet
The Fog

Top 10 would include...

The Wraith
The Forsaken
Trick r' Treat
Point Break
The Hitcher (remake)

lol, way to charm your audience!

I prefer this Nosferatu (The Vampyre):

Battle for Algiers was quite excellent, and all the better for having been made with amateur actors found on the street (if I recall correctly)

But the movies mentioned are hardly tripe, as you so delicately put it.

The point I was trying to make, if people don't explore the entirety of world cinema, how can they then decide what is a "top movie"? I mean folks actually believe that Hollywood make great films, when in actual fact the majority of movies are a bunch of mega bucks special effects interspersed with plot lines more flimsy than a piece of toilet paper. Western movies for the most part have absolutely no depth to them whatsoever.

PS Have you seen Black Orpheus? Brazil, 1959

One of the best films ever made, imo

Also Grass (1925) is a documentary which follows a tribe's seasonal migration, pretty amazing cinema
