No, the KKK has never ever been a leftist organization. Stop this lie.

Let's get right into it shall we?

To start, the KKK was founded in 1865 by a group of Confederate Veterans. The article below describes this rather well:

In Pulaski, Tennessee, a group of Confederate veterans convenes to form a secret society that they christen the “Ku Klux Klan.” The KKK rapidly grew from a secret social fraternity to a paramilitary force bent on reversing the federal government’s progressive Reconstruction Era-activities in the South, especially policies that elevated the rights of the local African American population.

www.history.com...

But weren't these guys Democrats? Most of them were yes. It's important however to understand that the Democratic party of the past and the Democratic party of today differs significantly. In particular, the KKK held a strong following in the Southern 'Dixiecrat' wing of the Democratic party. Who were the Dixiecrats?

The Dixiecrats were a political party organized in the summer of 1948 by conservative white southern Democrats committed to states' rights and the maintenance of segregation and opposed to federal intervention into race, and to a lesser degree, labor relations.

www.encyclopediaofalabama.org...

It's important to understand that the Democratic party of the pre-civil rights era was split between the progressive, more liberal Northern wing and the Southern conservative wing. This is how they managed to win the South back then. This is why you had conservatives the likes of Ronald Reagan (conservative icon), Strom Thurmond (known as one of the leading opponents to the civil rights movement) and Bob Barr (lead impeachment against Bill Clinton, ran Libertarian 2008) as members of the Democratic Party before they decided to switch Republican in the 60's and 70's:

www.senate.gov...

Reagan himself said it best with regards to switching from Democrat to Republican in the 60s:

Reagan's decision to cross over to the GOP didn't come as much of a surprise. "I didn't leave the Democratic Party," he famously said. "The party left me."

content.time.com...

Reagan often claimed his transition was because he was shifting to the right. However well before the 60's Reagan had always held conservative views with the exception of his support for Unions (until his later transition).

Now let's not rely on the individual members themselves when describing the KKK and the Dixiecrats. What about their policies? Well to start;

The KKK has historically supported States Rights and a smaller Federal Government:

www.famous-trials.com...

The KKK has been historically anti-immigration:

In addition, political, economic, and social changes led to the rise of the New Woman, the changing face of American's cities, and an increasing role for African Americans. The anxiety created by the threat to "traditional American values" peaked after World War One. In response, some Americans during the 1920's sought to restrict certain kinds of immigrants while others resurrected the Ku Klux Klan and similar "protective" organizations.

ehistory.osu.edu...

David Duke, founder of and Grand Wizard of the Knights of the KKK, was and is still politically conservative:

David Duke, who switched from being a Democrat in the 70s/80s to then becoming a Republican, held conservative policies:

The following year, Duke won his first elected office in a special election for the Louisiana State House. Running as an anti-tax, anti-busing Republican, Duke toned down his anti-Semitism and dodged questions about his neo-Nazi and Klan past. Fueling support for his campaign was fierce opposition to eliminating the state's highly popular homestead exemption, which eliminated property taxes for homes assessed at under $75,000. In unusually high turnout for a special election, Duke won 33% of the vote to his opponent John Treen's 19%. In the runoff that followed, Duke beat Treen by just 227 votes. Among the legislation unsuccessfully proposed by Duke while in office were bills to raise penalties for drug offenders in housing projects and to require drug testing for recipients of welfare and Medicaid.

www.splcenter.org...

It is true that David Duke ran as a Democrat but this didn't change his political positions which never have been 'leftist'. Not to mention he never won political office as a Democrat and never won within Democrat party elections or be nominated.

Another notable candidate the KKK has supported or endorsed is Donald Trump:

www.skynews.com.au...

The KKK endorses Christian values and is almost a requirement within the organization:

The second Klan required its members to be not only white and male but also Christian. Religion became the centerpiece of the second Klan’s platform, and Klansmen showed their allegiance to their faith through church attendance, speeches and writings and the recruitment of ministers as members. Visiting churches to make monetary donations was another method used by Klan members to show their commitment.

www.readex.com...

The KKK is anti-Islam:

www.al.com...

Lastly, we all know that the KKK is Nationalist.

There's nothing to indicate that the KKK is at all 'leftist'. We don't hear about support for welfare or affirimative action. We don't see the KKK advocating pro-choice. We don't see the KKK pushing socialist policy. They certainly do not reflect your stereotypical progressive movement. There's nothing that individuals on the right can point to aside from the fact the KKK has origins in part from the Democratic party.... because apparently Democrat automatically equals Leftist. Nevermind the policy and the history behind their movement.

Many of you on here support exactly what the KKK has advocated for years. It's clear as day they are a socially conservative focused organization and movement. They always have been. Nobody here can prove otherwise (I seriously invite any of you to try).

You can call them Democrats, you can call them Republicans but the reality is that they are the 'PURE' Cowards of life, not just any ordinary coward..pure cowards, cowards who bleed pure cowards blood. That's why they form their little gangs because that's what cowards do.The cowards form their little gangs, they put their little hoods on, grab their little shields, run over people with cars and spread their little hate of Satan.

It's just one name you give deplorable humans like that 'COWARDS'

Who gives a sweet crap what side of the isle the KKK, Black Panthers or any other of these brilliant useful idiots reside.

This is being used to divide the US public because it works. When the American public finally has had enough of the political glad handing and gets together, we will solve all these problems that both the R's, D's, Left and Right are too lobbied to solve.

Apparently a lot of people on ATS and the right give a crap. They won't stop talking about their origins being Democrat, as if this automatically means they're 'liberal'. My God, what a stretch.

Just like birtherism, conservatives attempt to play off one of their monsters as not their own.

Yet it's the far right radicals who march with neo nazi's and hold up flags with a Swastika on it in marches named "Unite the Right".

Making your comment demonstrably false in all respects.

In other words you couldn't be more wrong.

OK, dems are usually more liberal than R's I can see their absolutely pointless point as small and meaningless as it may be.

Remember don't engage with stupids-they will beat you with experience.

You're right of course.

But only because back then the Democrats were the right-leaning party (In American terms) and the Republicans were the left-leaning party.

One only has to look at the Presidency of Theodore Roosevelt, in particular his economic policies to see how much has changed in that regard.

I don't believe they aren't intelligent enough though. They are certainly smart enough to understand.

They are just choosing to lie. I find that to be even worse.

Ignorance needs help to understand something and shouldn't be looked down upon. We are all ignorant or need help in some area. No fault in that.

Willingly lying when you know better however is different and should be called out for what it is and punished for it's active role in destroying what is known to be true.

Everybody knows that K-K-K was made up solely of Democrats.

The very first member and founder had a impediment and it took him awhile to get it out.

K-K-K-Kommunist !

Too bad for you they weren't attacking them or you might have a point.

Don't talk to me anymore.

I don't like people who can't stop lying even when they know better.

Thanks.
