Breaking: 8.1 Magnitude earthquake hits Mexico

A strong earthquake hit off the coast of southern Mexico, near the border with Guatemala, the USGS Geological Survey (USGS) reported Friday.

The quake, which was felt as far as Mexico City and Guatemala City, had a preliminary magnitude of 8.1 and depth of 69.7 kilometers (43 miles), according to the USGS. It was a particularly shallow quake, according to Jana Pursely, a geophysicist at the USGS.

The solar eclipse certainly was telling us something it seems with hurricanes, wildfires and quakes soon following.

Is it telling us that earthquakes are to be expected near the boundaries of multiple major tectonic plates?? Cause that's what happened last night...

Wonder if this could be caused by the underground test in NK?? NK is located near the far northwest corner of the Pacific Plate. Anyone know if it is possible that the blast could have caused unnecessary shift around the plates?

I've often wondered the size of the tsunami Europe would face if all those americans living around the east coast jumped into the atlantic simultaneously.

People don't believe it.... I'm with you though. The total solar eclipse was a rare event and when people of times past call it an omen... I believe them.

The Earth gets total solar eclipses SOMEWHERE on the planet on an average of once every two years (check out this map of eclipses) Eclipses over the USA hit about once every 10 years or so and on a predictable pattern and location based on orbital mechanics.

Nuclear tests are actually pretty small compared to the size of the Earth.

It actually was not rare at all....you are completely misinformed about the eclipse.

Since the year 2000, we have already had TEN total solar eclipse plus numerous partial and hybrid eclipses. Not rare at all
