At the very moment Democrats are claiming to distance themselves from abortion, they run back towards it by making Howard Dean -- a former doctor for Planned Parenthood -- their public face. Though the press almost never mentions it, Dean did an OB/GYN rotation for Planned Parenthood in the 1970s and later served as an executive board member of Planned Parenthood New England, meaning that he directly oversaw the largest abortion provider in the region. Were the Democrats sincerely moving to the middle on abortion, selecting a former overseer of abortion would have been the last thing to do.

so what?.....Dean is a good guy and proabably was one of the only good candidates who seeked the democratic nomination....he was the only one who admitted teh war was the wrong choice

planned parenthood is a good idea and does good work for people who are in tight situations....

And given the struggle with discussion of the issue of "topicality" and what forum is appropriate for what in the past few days, this is a political conspiracy why exactly?

If Democrats are trying to distance themselves from abortion, then why is it that I do not read constant clamoring from the Democratic party to ban abortion? If they aren't calling for a ban then they aren't distancing themselves from it. Sort of like many in the Republican party. If you are a law maker and you don't do anything to remove a law, then you must be in favor of its existence.

Two points:

1. I'm not sure such a thing as a "middle" on abortion exists except in punditry speak. It's like being somewhat pregnant, either you are or you aren't.

Ex: Cheney was against all abortions. All of them. Rape, incest, whatever man. You're having a baby! Congrats!!! He towed the RNC line. Whereas Kerry was for 100% choice. Any choice, because it's either all legal or none of it is. He towed the DNC line.

The pretenders (ala Bush) may like you to think they are "in the middle" but logically that makes no sense. If the DNC wants to start talking about how much they dislike abortions, while 100% supporting a woman's right to have one... then that's about as "middle" as you can expect to get.

2. Huh? Wikipedia has a fairly lengthy and even unflattering entry on the life of Howard Dean that doesn't give any indication he was ever an "abortionist" but I supposed it depends on your nuanced definition of "oversaw" abortions.

By that thinking then George Bush is the biggest abortonist in American history since his abstinece-only Presidency has overseen the sharpest rise in abortions to date!

Sorry if this is the wrong place for the thread, o masked one, but after over a year on the national stage, this is the first that I or anyone at the office (media political junkies all) had heard that Dr. Dean was an "abortion provider". Seems a conspiracy of silence by the objective, unbiased and accurate fourth estate might, maybe, be a possibility?

But Rant, those programs work! They scare the kids not to sweat since that causes aids, to do that they must not work out or do excercise, so they become fat and ugly, so no one will have sex with them!

Anyways, pro-life equals kill everyone but the zombie parasite, pro-choice equals you have a choice, abort or not to abort.

You're talking about the same "liberal" media that destroyed Howard Dean's candidacy, right? Uh, yeah.

Watching what they did to him over a scream, I'd think if there was any way to realistically spin imagery of him devouring the flesh of newborns from the womb of captive women ala Caligula, they would have.
