Progress on the newest aircraft carrier is going well it seems. The Chinese are stating outfitting and the debugging of the equipment is going well. They are confident enough to announce the start of mooring trials soon.

And in a plot twist, the Ukrainians might not have given North Korea the rocket motor tech, but they sure seem to be helping the Chinese with their carriers.

I don't see why everyone is laughing at them, they're making rapid progress and well above Russia IMO.

It's a completely new build that they built from the ground up.

Sure they are getting ahead of Russia...................... 10 x the population and economic output based on slavery. Plus they stole Russia's and other countries designs to make their Great Leap Forward into the modern world.

I think the the carrier after shandong will come faster than come after than the conventional wisdom and probably won't have cats yet. The one after that probably will go for the emals style cats. Just IMO.

No matter what anyone thinks china has some kick ass ship builders.Ive worked with some Chinese welders who did their time stick welding cargo ships together. They exceeded international welding standards with their work..Put them outside their comfort zone though and they struggled though.

We are getting some info now on the next carrier based on the modifications to the land based mockup the chinese have. Phased array radar and other sensors on the island.

it should be noted the USMC is mimicking the Chinese: they are talking about building an amphib mockup.

How is that mimicking the Chinese? There are lots of mockup's for training and evaluation?

Every system has multiple test rig 'mockups'.

There is Ski Jump to mimic the deck of the QE Class.

There are airfields with carrier deck mock ups for practicing ship ops.

Flight simulators / synthetic training aids.

This is BAE in Portsmouth UK:

A USMC general stated they thought the full mock up the chinese had built for various testing and whatnot was a great idea and wanted to do the same for marine amphibs. Since its cheap to do (its a building, not a ship), it ought to happen pdq.

They did it during WW2 for aircraft handling and pilot training.

The Chinese intend a full carrier group capability to rival the USA. They are methodically working towards it and will get there in time. They have the money and the manpower and are going faster than expected.
