I don't think the USA has ever really been United in this idyllic way people like to imagine.

The division was always on the menu. It just happens to be the soup du jour now.

Could it be that the media, with biased political agendas, are exaggerating the division to perpetually instigate it so that their fantasy becomes our reality?

It seems to be working too since all anybody sees is how divided it all is. They deal in illusions, man! (To quote Network.)

Of course we seem like wimps in the face of a grand beast such as this.

My point as well.
The internet can give you a really skewed perspective on things. MSN as well. Out in real life, at work, on the street in the grocery store you don't hear anyone talking about most of the topics here in the New Topics Forum. You only see it here and in other internet forums.

If I didn't swing by, I'd never hear a word about Trump, killer-cops, riots, or anything else that has everyone else panties in a bunch.

Not quite as much as some but Guilty as charged on at least one occasion, I later felt bad about it and edited it out, still you are correct, ATS is becoming a little less civil these day's, just because the insult's take a paragraph does not mean they are not insult's if cleverly worded.

Abandoning the party loyalty would work wonders, as they are separate heads of the same dragon, equally corrupted and divisive. Sadly I do not expect to happen any time soon.

And as others basically stated, ditch more of the doom n gloom, lighten up and laugh a lot more.

Maybe most importantly, love one another and embrace our mostly petty differences.
