They make a love child called the V-280 Valor.

The first pix of the near completed prototype have escaped to the wild of the V-280 Valor, the potential tilt rotor replacement for the Blackhawk. The prototype appears to be readying for engine tests.

Not quite as pretty, but I didn't get to go on, or near the ramp and had to settle for taking them from a truck stop.

Oh, and when we went by today, it looked like they had dropped it off the test stand. I'll be by next week again to get another look, but it appeared it was on the ramp, possibly getting ready for taxi tests. It's supposed to fly this month.

Looks pretty badass. What advantages will this offer over the Blackhawk besides speed? Just curious as to the capabilities this airframe offers vs an updated Blackhawk. Is this going to be worth the additional cost and complexity?

The Valor is one of two being offered for the first stage of the Future Vertical Lift program. Under FVL, they'll replace the Blackhawk, Apache, and get a new scout helicopter.

The Valor will be faster, and should have a lower RCS. It won't be true stealth, just a reduced cross section.

Every article is calling it their replacement, when it's not, at least not immediately and not necessarily directly. The JMR program is going to decide what requirements will go into each phase of the FVL program that will be the follow on. FVL is what will eventually replace them.

It may replace them under FVL, but only if they decide that it meets what they need after JMR.
