Charlie Hebdo has a long history of controversial cartoons that have riled up people all over the world. It has featured the Prophet Muhammad, who many Muslims believe should not be depicted at all, including on a 2006 cover with the headline “Mohammed Overwhelmed by Fundamentalism.” The magazine was denounced by the French president at the time, Jacques Chirac, and was sued over that issue.

It has also published covers that shout, “The Koran is worthless—it doesn’t even stop bullets!” and “I slept with my dad to get ahead,” mocking the son of then-President Nicolas Sarkozy. It has portrayed the pope holding a condom aloft, Michael Jackson as a skeleton with hair and the words “Michael Jackson, white at last,” and a naked woman with a piece of fabric sticking out of her backside and the words “Yes to wearing the burqa…on the inside!”

given that i've seen conservatives give a pass to the extreme anti-muslim covers hebdo has published in the past, i'm interested to see the reaction they have to this one...

painting with a broad brush and extreme insensitivity and calling it satire is all well and good when they're not going after you, eh?

Popping the popcorn... this will be an interesting thread indeed.

Good for them.

Unfortunately the fact almost no other outlet will show the old covers or even this new one shows that violence has intimated them into silence.

yes, that's unfortunate also.

Hell, let's just make light of France's problems....oh, I forgot they don't have any. Their just damn perfect lil humans, make me ashamed I took French in school. If I still knew any I would tell them in French to " eat poop and cake then die". But alas, we should feel sorry for that country. They have gave away all their power.....with all the immigration of the past 25 years.

You do realize that a magazine isn't a country, right?

I did read it, and the only person that even remotely tried to denounce it was a lefty.

What I did see though, was a pathetic attempt by you to try to trigger the "conservatives", and when that failed, you somehow told yourself it didn't.

I think it's funny. And maybe worth to know that it's more a comment on what is seen in European "news" than on reality.

Meh....who cares? It's a French magazine that already reaped what they sowed once. If you can't learn the lesson after that then I'm not sure it can be at this point.

Either way, I believe they should be more worried about their own country.

i see people quibbling with whether nazis live in texas and how accurate that is, and that the cover is insensitive. they do not seem to follow the general trendline of this magazine having also put out inaccurate and insensitive covers about muslims.

i do also see others who say that it's all meant to be offensive and so what, free speech is more important. i didn't expect a uniform response, but i am seeing what i expected.

i supposed you also see what you expect. isn't perspective a remarkably flexible thing?

Who gives a chit. lol its just leftist French being leftist French, they hope it causes an uproar, nothing sells like controversy. Guess there has been a lull in business after they spiked after they were attacked. Just goes to show that free speech doesn't guarantee its not ignorant free speech, but have no doubt it will be popular among the French especially all the new French that chop off hands for stealing and stone to death adulterous women. LOL they can't decide who their audience is LOL

And I wouldn't be surprised if the professor that got fired for saying Harvey is Karma got offered a job at Charlie Hebdo.

Aren't we supposed to change our phone screens to the Texan state flag and go round saying "je suis Texas" ?

I can see what they're trying to say but the joke doesn't really work. Not for me anyway.

Unless, if its Gods will there's a flood? I have family from Texas and they aren't Nazis.
Maybe they're trying to imply that it was the will of Allah that their staff got shot?

Anyway, free speech and all that...

In other words, you can't prove my intentions so I'll just hide behind this thing called perspective.

Come on, it was pretty obvious you tried to troll and didn't get the responses you were expecting.

But enjoy your thread, I guess.

Exactly. You can't pick and choose what's ok for them to print.

Yep. Not any different than those folks on Twitter that have been caught out saying things like "Texas is a red state so I'm not going to help them" and whatnot.

Wonder what the OP thinks about those of us that think it's in poor taste yet still protected speech.

Just like the Hebdo satirical pieces on Muhammad were.

Yeah, let's not do that, OK?

Ignore them, and they'll go away. As with all media, they've the attention span of a two year old, eventually they'll find something else to be stupid about.

Triggered into calling both incidences "protected speech" I suppose.

But I think you're probably correct with your previous comment, and at this point in the failed attempt at trolling, anything can be spun into a victory for the OP.
